In 2001 I organized the 2nd International Husband/Wife Home Birth Conference.
Families came from all over the west: Utah, Nebraska, Colorado, and California to attend the conference.
Keynote Speaker was Laura Kaplan Shanley
Parents from California, Utah, and Colorado spoke at this conference, sharing various insights and birth stories with those who attended.
We had four goals:
1. To explore (and promote) the idea that private birth among lovers is not only desirable, but an essential part of the husband and wife relationship.
2. To improve our education, motivation, and confidence regarding birth.
3. To fellowship and socialize with like minded families.
4. This conference will not promote any particular religion, but those who share are invited to freely express their beliefs, especially in regards to birth.
Since the conference I gave birth to our fifth child after doing my own prenatal care in 2002. Benjamins birth completed the journey that I began back in 1989 when I made the decision and set the goal to learn motherhood self sufficiency skills and take personal responsibility for my own health care.
Here is a picture of Paul and I when I was about five months pregnant with Benjamin.

Since organizing and publishing the conference on the internet, I have written numerous books, articles, and blog entries promoting Unassisted Birth and Family Self Sufficiency.
I believe Family Self Sufficiency, especially in regards to health, simply makes sense in our world today. Wether for spiritual, emotional, or financial reasons; concerns about terrorism, natural disasters, or just for the fun of it, parents learning the skills of childbirth are some of the most proactive and wonderful steps a couple can take together.
