Suicide is Painful

Dave.jpg
This post is dedicated to my brother Dave who died of a drug overdose in 2001 and had enough emotional pain during his life for ten people.
UPDATE Sunday:
Pajamas Media just can’t seem to get my links in the comments right, so quickly, here is a review of everything I have linked off of my published comments.
Eli Lilly Lies
Psychiatry has a credibility problem
Psychiatry manual may be twisted
And the article from the New York Times that Drudge linked to this morning..

Original Post
Last night I listened to this whole pod cast by Glenn and Helen at Pajamas Media. It was an interview with a doctor about suicide and depression.
I then spent some time creating a comment to reply to the show and Pajamas posted it this morning.
I have long believed that suicidal tendencies were tied to birth trauma, based on the research I conducted during my Childbirth Educators training.
And as someone who has suffered from suicidal ideation since I was fifteen, I have long been interested in it because of my own pathology. I have been hospitalized twice for suicidal thoughts. The first time was in 1989, a few weeks after I had started taking the anti-depressant Prozac. To “cure” my thoughts, the psychiatrists doubled my dose of Prozac, and took me off my chemical cocktail. That year I had been court ordered to eat Lithium, Stelazine (at a very high dose), and eventually the prozac. I stopped taking stelazine and only took prozac during that winter of 1989-90. And in the spring of 1990 was able to wean off of Prozac with the aid of my psychiatrist.
Weaning off that drug was the hardest thing I have ever done.
Although I have suffered from emotional illness most of my life, I have not taken one psychiatric pill in the past 16 years.

When my brother died in 2001, I became suicidal and was hospitalized again for three days. During that intense week, I met with a psychotherapist who recomended that I purchase the Courage to Heal Workbook. Paul and I drove to the book store and bought it right after the session.
I shudder to think how that month would have gone had I not had that book in my hands. It gave a sense of normality to everything that I was feeling, and as I worked through the exercises, it helped me deal with the overwhelming sensations coursing through my body and mind without falling deeper into distress.
When I became suicidal a few days later, after remembering a particularly violent episode of sexual assault that I witnessed at the age of three, and then was threatened that if I told, the perp would kill me and then kill my sister, the book taught me that intense suicidal ideation is common when memories are bubbling to the surface.
I spent three days in a mental hospital working with excellent therapists and was released to the care of my psychologist, who offered excellent and professional help during that intense year of remembering.
I cringe when I think of all the people in our society who have taken the drugs for symptom relief only to discover to their horror that symptoms begin to rage out of control and they are left with a heightened and intensely worse situation to deal with, during perhaps one of the most difficult periods of their lives emotionally.
Anti-depressants double the level of cortisol in the blood with just one dose.
And why is this a problem?
From Dr. Tracys article:
PROZAC’S EFFECT ON CORTISOL LEVELS:

“Another very serious medical problem associated with Prozac is an amazing increase in cortisol. One single 30 mg dose of Prozac (a pill and a half) will double the cortisol levels in the body. Research has demonstrated that high cortisol levels cause brain damage. This is called Cushing’s syndrome and the moods fluctuate from euphoria, mania and full psychosis to depths of depression. High cortisol produces irritability, decreased ability to handle stress, decreased glucose tolerance which results in hypoglycemia and diabetes, muscle weakness, edema, depressed immune system and suppressed inflammation response. You can see how the body is completely deteriorating when you’re increasing cortisol levels by literally doubling them on a daily basis.”

I felt that the pod cast was simply an advertisement for anti-depressant drugs, and rather than being sponsored by volvo, it would have been more appropriate for it to be sponsored by Eli Lilly.

Here is the complete comment section from this post, as of Dec. 23rd, 2006. Once again I am accused of being a scientologist, as if that had anything to do with the conversation???
Jenny Hatch :
Just listened to the suicide and depression pod cast with Dr. Eric Caine.
It was an informative infomercial for anti-depressants, with all the usual arguments and defenses coming into the conversation.
Fact is, the Anti-Depressant Freight train is still causing train wreck size disasters for many of the patients who use them.
The drug companies have engaged in a sixteen year coverup and it is past time for Congress to ban these drugs in America.

And for those who may be interested in potential real causes for adult and teen violent suicide, read some of the research linking violent childbirth to later violent suicide.
Dr. Caine must not have been aware of these studies and information…

Did you see the headline on drudge just now. Looks like the New York Times is going to take on Lilly, and it is about stinkin time.
Is anyone surprised at these disclosures???
Here is my blog entry about the pod cast.

These apologists for big pharma need to be exposed, not given even more air time.
Please be a part of the solution to this problem. The MSM has played into the hands of their biggest advertiser for sixteen years, it is time to expose the frauds.

One more time.
Can’t seem to get that link to PETER BREGGIN to work, so here it is, one more time…

And if anyone is wondering why it does not link in the above comment, it is because there is a space between c and u in the word documents.
Oh, and FYI, here is a link to the fabulous New York Times article linked from Drudge this morning,
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/17/business/17drug.html?ei =5065&en=51ecabefcf344013&ex=1166936400&partner=MYWAY&pagewanted=print
And one more thing….it is a diabolical yet brilliant marketing strategy to get millions of people hooked on anti-depressants like Prozac that CAUSE mania and psychosis, and then put all your marketing efforts into the “cure” for said ailment in the form of Zyprexa, an anti-psychotic.
Lilly also has one of the largest diabetes infrastructures on the market….
As I said, Brilliant marketing.
Get people manic and diabetic on one drug, and here is the “cure” for both from our other in house drugs….
Does any worse evil exist in our society???
