Not since the infamous Deep Throat of the Nixon days has an anonymous person been so dutifully quoted by the press.
Dr. Crippen is being quoted on blogs, in the newspapers, on the television, and in the sacred halls of obstetrics societies as if he was God Himself.
I wonder when he is going to come out of the closet and tell us who he really is. And have the courage of his convictions to stand by his calls for parents to be put in prison if a husband/wife home birth goes bad.
‘Freebirthers’ have babies with no medical help
“Dr Crippen, a British National Health Service doctor who writes an award-winning blog on the Internet, has reacted angrily to growing interest in freebirth, saying babies born this way should have a right to legal recourse later in life.
He says āgiving birth is the most dangerous thing that most woman will do during their life,ā and argues:
āDoes a mother not owe a duty of care to her baby? Should a mother not take reasonable care to protect the baby when she gives birth? And if she does not take reasonable care ā and the standard should be objective not subjective ā why should a baby who has sustained avoidable brain damage due to the motherās negligence not take action against his mother?ā
If a baby were to die during a freebirth, Dr Crippen argues the mother should be prosecuted for manslaughter.”
I must have read this quote a hundred times in the past month, and it keeps getting thrown around like it actually has some weight as an argument against freebirth.
I wonder if the reporters even know that he is some ANONYMOUS dude blogging about the dangers and incompetence of the UK’s socialistic health system that we here in America think will save us from certain death and disability.
It cracks me up watching how lemming like the media is, jumping on the bandwagon….without really understanding the facts of the matter.
Anyway, I don’t think he should be given as much weight as say The Royal College in the UK or sogc in Canada but it is funny how he keeps being quoted like he has written scripture.
I know the dudes from ACOG are probably out golfing and are not aware that a debate is raging about freebirth in the sphere, but I can’t wait for them to send down their little proclamation from on high. I wonder who they will get to write it? Dr. Amy comes to mind. She is just so smart and so educated with the facts of birth. And such a good writer. Yeah, docs she is the one (or should I say seven big pharma shills) writing under her pseudonym Tutor. Sent out into the blogosphere to perform her sock puppetry for and in behalf of the drug companies. What a gal! We still have yet to see a picture of her or her credentials posted on youtube. Dr. Amy, Paging Dr. Amy…..where are YOU???
Come on ACOG, times a wastin’. Time for ya’ll to jump on the anti-freebirth bandwagon.
