Autonomous Birth:

General News and Thoughts on the Media
I really love this site! And she had this to say about my recent debating at WaPo:

“I was also yesterday reading through Jenny Hatch’s blog and I am amazed by the fortitude she has to continue to respond in kind — she stands right up to the angry mobs with her own equally angry rants, both on her blog and on other internet forums. How effective it is to do so I don’t know, although I don’t know either that it’s her goal to convert anyone anyway —

I get the feeling that it’s simply her way of refusing to take the accusations and judgments lying down. I admire her for fighting, but me, I can’t do it. The negativity eats away at me. It takes an incredible amount of emotional and mental energy to address the same tired objections over and over again, especially when you’re speaking to people who aren’t aware of even the most basic and obvious problems with modern maternity care to begin with.

All they know, and all they care about, is what their own sensibilities consist of, and that everyone else stays in line with that. It’s unacceptable or unfathomable to them that anyone might have actual valid reasons for feeling or believing something different than they. And that’s the state of mind in which that which is different begins to look scary and evil, simply by virtue of being different, rather than by any inherent wrongness.”

When the c-section rate hits 60% as my daughters give birth, and 80% when my grand daughters give birth, I want to make sure they have this option to give birth at home alone. That is why I yell so loud.
