BBC World Service: Culture Shock radio programme talks about Freebirth

This radio show has an audience of 180 million people. Here is the internet link:
If you want to skip the first ten minutes of the program, just click on the five minute skip button twice. Then the interviewer will speak to a woman about baby naming trends and then Laura Shanley’s interview begins.
I thought this interview was excellent.
Laura really laid out her case very logically. The counter point was provided by a man who claimed that the internet was giving the common man tools to democratize and de-professionalize a whole slew of fields of study, and he predicted that a backlash to unassisted birth would play out in our world over the next year.
I believe this backlash has already begun with the recent edicts from four obstetrical societies condemning freebirth. Go Here to read that roundup.
How effective these wealthy and powerful people will be in squashing freebirth remains to be seen, but if even two or three percent of birthing women in America (and around the world) eventually embrace freebirth, no matter what goofball laws are passed against it…you are talking about tens of thousands of mothers who will have to be prosecuted and locked up for giving birth by themselves in the coming years.
Now, if the legal and medical profession believe prosecution of mothers for giving birth alone is a proper use of taxpayer money and the spectacle of women being dragged into court in orange jumpsuits, handcuffed, with husbands and older children standing outside the prison holding signs of support, is really a proper use of societal money, resources, and prison space…. OK guys, have at it.
But the backlash, the absolute blowback of that effort to use legalisms to prevent women from claiming autonomy over the birth process and their own bodies….it will be fierce.
And I will be on the front lines yelling, “CHARGE!!!!”
