This Austrailian Blogger has decided……Freebirth is the answer to a Medical Profession Gone Crazy….(With great links and quotes and several excellent comments)

I’ve been writing about reproduction for a couple of years, and now I am myself reproducing. Thankfully I find myself with a wealth of knowledge about my options when it comes to birth, but what I think is more important is I have an understanding of the politics of birth. Despite the fact that home birth is in many respects far safer than giving birth in a hospital (Wagner 2000b), currently less than 2% of Australian wimmin give birth at home (Palmer 2001). Why? During birth a womun’s vagina is referred to as a “birth canal” by medical professionals (Kitzinger 2005, 60). Why? The rates of caesarean sections in industrialised countries continue to rise. Why? The answer to all these questions is a matter of politics, and so is my decision to bring this baby into the world at home, with no medical experts present.
