We have an upcoming CW program that Gloria and I thought would
be particularly useful for UCers. As you know, many UCers do a beautiful
job birthing their babies, but then take the baby in to a doctor right after
the birth, usually unnecessarily. We thought that UCers might benefit from
a class entitled “Pediatric Exam of the Newborn” – 90 minutes on what to
look for, what to be concerned about, what to not be concerned about, etc.,
to try to keep these babies at home without unnecessary post partum medical
interventions. Thanks so much for letting the UC community know about this
class! Love, Raquel

Course Description
Knowing what the midwife or pediatrician is looking for in the examination
of a newborn will enhance your ability to assist with the care of the baby
during the post partum period. In this workshop, you learn to distinguish
between normal parental concerns, (e.g., “Is it normal for the baby to turn
bright red?”) and signs that the baby should be seen in a hospital emergency
ward (e.g., “The baby isn’t feeding and seems lethargic”). Valuable for all
care providers and expecting parents. Reserve your “seat” today!
