Freebirth…Is it a crime?

UPDATE: July 21st
NO!
Laura Shanley told me last week that the blogosphere had been buzzing about Janets birth for a few months. I have been completely out of the loop because of work and no time to follow the story. But today I did a little more research and found that the same ol losers in the medical field who want to prosecute Mothers for giving birth at home alone screamed long and loud when Janet’s baby died last spring.

Here is the link to Dr. Crippens blog post about it.

And of course Dr. Amy had to chime in…

“In April of this year, Janet Fraser, Australiaโ€™s leading advocate of UC, experienced the death of her baby during labor. Fraser had proudly boasted to an Australian paper that she had no prenatal care of any kind, and planned to have no medical assistance at the birth. Her baby paid the ultimate price for her idiocy.

Tragically, unassisted childbirth has no benefit for the baby and poses very serious risks. It is a form of medical neglect based on appalling ignorance and extraordinary selfishness and self-absorption. In short, it is nothing more than a dangerous stunt.”

I believe Janet Fraser and her baby may have been the victims of a crime.
The fact that a slew of babies in Australia died in homebirth settings is a possible indication of planned murders.
I have not written about this previously, but the past two years several attempts have been made on my life.
As one of the loudest voices in the blogdom promoting unassisted childbirth, I have been subjected to numerous cyber attacks on my web sites, my home computer, and whenever I turn on trackbacks or comments on this blog, within minutes I get spammed with the most vile porn and drug ads on the internet. And these assaults on my site come every few minutes, so I will wake up and have thousands of comments to delete every day.
Two years ago I was shopping at my local grocery store when someone threw a toxic chemical in my face. I was shopping with Andy and Ben and all three of us have suffered a variety of symptoms these past two years.

Ben Rash in Jan 2008
We have suffered with a variety of toxic symptoms: Rashes, Infections, Bloody Noses (My nose was bleeding so bad one time I had to go to the ER to get it cauterized), thick brown ooze coming from my eyes, and multiple layers of toxic substances coming from all eliminatory systems. Burning sensation when eliminating, and general fatigue and exhaustion.
Another attack occurred when I was traveling in New York in the spring of 2007. At some point during my travels I was attacked with toxic chemicals. Then I was attacked again in front of my home by a dispersing agent that hit my face and caused me to become extremely ill for weeks.
I have not written publicly about these attacks, but when I read about Janet Frasers child and all of the venom that was spewed against her and all of us in the Unassisted Childbirth community, I figured it was time to go public with my story.
With the little bit I have read of Janets story, I believe someone, somewhere created a concentrated form of Cytotec, made it into an aerosol form and splayed it into her face a few days before the baby was born.
I would be very curious to read any toxicology reports and/or autopsy reports done on her child and perhaps the rest of the babes who died in Australia around the same time.
I don’t believe anyone will be able to stop the unassisted childbirth movement, but I do believe with so much money, status, and control at stake, we present a profound threat to the status quo Obstetrical World and some evil members of that group may have decided it was time for those of us who write and yell and share with the mothers on the web to be snuffed out.
They have not been able to kill me yet, but I have no doubt that they continue to try, and if I end up dead in some funny way, please consider this post when and if you hear of my untimely death.
My advice to parents on the web. Go PRIVATE! Take down all of your blogs, web sites, chat room participation. Any identifying information that could possibly set you up for someone stalking and/or killing you or your child.
If you give birth at home alone, and are investigated by authorities, tell them it was an unplanned emergency childbirth that happened before you could get to the hospital.
For years we have lived happily under the radar of the powers that be, but with so much media interest these past two years and numerous articles, documentaries, and stories in the main stream press, our numbers are growing and I have no doubt any of us can and will be targeted.
This is not some whack job theory, it is reality and it is time for everyone to go underground.
When I was talking to Laura last week, I expressed to her how odd it is that women in my Boulder Community are applauded when they go have a third trimester abortion. The partial birth abortion was pioneered here at the Boulder Abortion Clinic and no one would EVER accuse a woman in my county of being a criminal for having her child executed while pregnant.
Yet those of us who give birth after doing our own prenatal care and in the sanctity of our own bedrooms are called bad mothers and criminals to boot. Something is very off in the world right now.
Again, if you are a freebirther reading this post…please, get off the internet and don’t talk to reporters. If you feel you have been the victim of a crime or are being stalked, please report it to your local police. I have reported being stalked to my local police twice, once by phone and once by email and they just blew me off. So, you will possibly be ignored, but it is still important to make the reports.
Perhaps if a few more of us are killed or babes are murdered the authorities will get serious about doing an investigation.

No.
This is the case that presumably the pro hospital birth bloggers and writers have been waiting for.

“What you may not know is Janet’s baby suffered cardiac arrest during her cherished unassisted water birth and died on March 27th at her home in Australia.”

“…Quite frankly, I think what Janet Fraser did was reckless, neglectful and borderline criminal. I hope she is at least subject to an investigation for child endangerment.

But I’d love to hear from homebirthers and hospital moms alike. What do you think about unassisted home births? Is it a personal choice or a borderline criminal act?”

It’s been a while since a writer has thrown out the idea that Freebirthers are potential criminals.
And I will respond to this writer the same way that I responded to writer and health blogger, Elizabeth St. Philip up in Canada in 2007:
As a loud proponent of freebirth and organizer of our second conference, I agree that few people are aware of how many of us are birthing alone at home.
As for your question…
We freebirthers understand that this choice makes some professionals uncomfortable but as to litigation?
Dr. Crippen is calling for us moms who have a babe die during a freebirth to be charged with manslaughter. (Or at least be prosecuted by brain damaged children later on)

I think he is really on to something in his call for criminal charges for dangerous parental decisions around birth.

We freebirthers will gladly accept the responsibility for our birth outcomes WHEN and IF mothers who are choosing elective C-sections are held under the same law.
Nobody is above the law…Right?
So, as long as moms who choose a medical intervention without true medical cause are being prosecuted and locked up for their dangerous and deadly choice for baby, we will gladly bow down to the law and allow ourselves to also be prosecuted and charged for a supposedly dangerous birth choice if baby dies during the birth.
See, we have nature and the lack of chemicals on our side, and I can promise you that the mothers from the medical side will be prosecuted ten to one more often than we mothers who are giving birth alone. Toxic, “blue” chemical laden babies have a much harder time recovering from birth than our beautiful natural babes who are born at home with proper hormonal interactions and lack of deadly drugs like Cytotec raging through their livers and brains.
It seems to me that if poor parental choices are being thrown into the mix of who gets prosecuted and who does not, those babies who are brain damaged from too many drugs at birth, those babies who never reach full genetic brain potential cause Momma didn’t want to breastfeed, and those children who are permanently maimed and disabled by never being fed whole organic foods, should also be enabled to have cause to sue parents for damages.”
Sound fair? Reasonable?
It does to me.
