Provident Living: Food Storage and 72 Hour Kits

These past few months I have been doing a huge overhaul of our Food Storage, re-boxing all of the cans, throwing away old food (fifteen year old oatmeal is YUCKY!), and inventorying all of our food.  I also plan to do a canning project this week, that I will blog later, canning approximately 500 pounds of grains, seeds, and beans to bump our storage  back up to the one year level.  We are going to empty out all of the water barrels and restock them, and we purchased new filters for our Shaklee Whole House System and our Reverse Osmosis Water Purifier.

I feel like I should mention once again that the main reason I learned how to give birth alone at home was because of end times prophecies around societal chaos.  With that commotion revving up quite a bit the past ten years, I want to testify that all Mothers should learn some basics around self reliant mothering just in case they can’t get to a hospital to give birth and the baby formula is sold out at the store…

PS I know I have shared these videos before, but here are my Provident Living You Tubes taped in 2006, with four year old Benjamin “helping” every step of the way.

Soccer

All three of our boys will be playing fall soccer and practices started this past week.  Paul took a bunch of photos from the first scrimmage game that they played yesterday.  I am a musical theatre Mom, and still don’t even understand all of the rules of soccer, we never played it when I was a child, and I don’t know what terms like “off sides” mean.  But I know how much I enjoy watching the boys play sports, and it was a fun way to spend the morning.  Ben starts his rec center team practices next week and we will be at our favorite park several times a week for games and practices.  Soccer means fall is almost here!

Ben spent the whole game chasing the balls that were kicked out of bounds.  He hopes to serve as the ball boy for most of the home games at the high school this season…

Hospitals take ‘hard stop’ on early elective C-sections, inductions

Beginning next month, many pregnant women in Oregon will no longer be able to have the early delivery they’ve been dreaming of.

On Sept. 1, Oregon will become the latest state where some hospitals are refusing to do elective, non-medically necessary inductions and cesarean sections before 39 weeks of pregnancy. The goal is to give babies more time for important development and to reduce costly complications after birth.

Seventeen Oregon hospitals — including all nine birthing hospitals in the Portland area — have agreed to a “hard stop” on the elective procedures, according to the March of Dimes’ Oregon chapter, which announced the agreement earlier this month. The agreement covers about half of the deliveries in the state.

The number of cesareans and inductions at 37 and 38 weeks has been growing as women schedule their deliveries for their convenience or to be delivered by their own doctor, says Michele Larsen, the Oregon chapter’s communications director. Deliveries at those weeks have risen in the U.S. in the last decade and now account for 17.5 percent of live births, she said. About one in three C-sections are done before 39 weeks, according to a 2009 study published in the New England Journal of Medicine.”

I sometimes wonder how the average rosebud would do if I were to force open its petals to compel it to be open and beautiful….

I applaud the hospitals who have taken a hard line against inductions before 39 weeks, but for this childbirth educator who believes in trusting nature, and who birthed a child after a 45 weeks gestation, the whole induction mess is just another layer of insanity around birth.  OK, so we have just “normalized” the 39 week induction, what about those of us who go 41 weeks or 42 weeks or 43 weeks???

Will our babes and our bodies be supported in gestating as long as the child needs to be ready to be born?

Architects & Engineers: Solving the Mystery of WTC 7

I don’t share this video lightly, I know what it means to question the governments official explanation of the events on 9-11.  But for me, the evidence points to some questions that DEMAND answers.  I am not saying the wars were pointless, and nothing good has come from having certain heads of state dead and gone, I am saying that something is off in the official explanation for what happened on 9-11 and I, like many people, demand answers to these questions.

From five to three…

Our daughters left for school last Tuesday and I have been trying to find my footing as a Mother of three sons in our home. Jeff and Andy have had a busy first week of school, starting early morning seminary and Soccer. They leave at six am and are not home until about six pm, so its not like they have been around much anyway.

Our oldest daughter Michelle has been my near constant companion for twenty two years. When she decided to live at home after high school and work these past four years, I had no idea how ill I would be and how important, crucial, it would be for her to be a part of our daily life. She has truly been a second mother to Benjamin these past eight years. He had a total meltdown two days before she left as it hit that his Shelly would be leaving.

I don’t have any words of wisdom or profound insights about this phase of life. Rather I just feel blessed to have two smart daughters who are grasping the future and moving forward with their lives. Both of them have friends with tens of thousands of dollars in student loan debts, and they are very focused on making certain that does not happen to them. I am so grateful for the clarity they both have on that subject and pray that they can stay focused and work hard.

Jeff just started his senior year and plans to apply to several schools…he wants to serve an LDS Mission and is thinking about studying Economics in College. He wants to try to get into the Air Force Academy and has been going through the application process to make that happen. He is singing in the Chamber Choir, Playing Varsity Soccer, and is going to be a four year member of the Speech and Debate Team. He is such a great guy and I love him so much.

Andy and Ben we will have with us for a few more years, and we are delighted with the progress they are both making as young men.

This side of Motherhood feels so overwhelming and difficult. Letting them go and watching them move into adult life. I am so grateful for the tremendous blessing of having these souls in my life for now and in eternity.

It has been such an honor to Mother them…
