NYT: Maureen Dowd – As the Nationโ€™s Pulse Races, Obama Canโ€™t Seem to Find His

dowd-ts-190“I was walking through a deserted downtown on Christmas Eve with a friend, past the lonely, gray Treasury Building, past the snowy White House with no president inside….

ย ย

…If we canโ€™t catch a Nigerian with a powerful explosive powder in his oddly feminine-looking underpants and a syringe full of acid, a man whose own father had alerted the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria, a traveler whose ticket was paid for in cash and who didnโ€™t check bags, whose visa renewal had been denied by the British, who had studied Arabic in Al Qaeda sanctuary Yemen, whose name was on a counterterrorism watch list, who can we catch?…”

I sort of have the feeling this is just the beginning…

WND: Thoughts from Pat Buchanan

bucnananA decade of self delusion

ย

“About the first decade of what was to be the Second American Century, the pessimists have been proven right.

ย

According to the International Monetary Fund, the United States began the century producing 32 percent of the world’s gross domestic product. We ended the decade producing 24 percent. No nation in modern history, save for the late Soviet Union, has seen so precipitous a decline in relative power in a single decade.

ย

The United States began the century with a budget surplus. We ended with a deficit of 10 percent of gross domestic product, which will be repeated in 2010. Where the economy was at full employment in 2000, 10 percent of the labor force is out of work today and another 7 percent is underemployed or has given up looking for a job.

ย

Between one-fourth and one-third of all U.S. manufacturing jobs have disappeared in 10 years, the fruits of a free-trade ideology that has proven anything but free for this country. Our future is being outsourced โ€“ to China.

ย

While the median income of American families was stagnant, the national debt doubled.”

ย

I mostly agree with Pat’s Assessment on things, but I still believe the world is a better place with Sadaam gone and a Constitutional Republic in Iraq.ย

Cardiac Arrest During Labor….

ย

ย

ย

ย

My only real question about this story is,

ย

What is the definition of “Being Prepped for Childbirth”?

ย

“Hermanstorfer, 33, was being prepped for childbirth at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs Thursday morning. Her 37-year-old husband was by her side when she began to feel sleepy and lay back in her bed.”

ย

Was she being induced?

ย

Did anyone give her an epidural?

ย

Had she been suffering from Toxemia?

ย

It seems to me the reporters are suffering from a lack of curiousity about what was happening to this mother and her baby as she was being “prepared”.

ย

Nature has a variety of useful preparations that take place in mothers during the days leading up to the birth.ย  For my own births I had days and days of pre-labor contractions that softened the cervix and helped my uterus to prepare for the work of childbirth.ย  I also experienced many of the common pregnancy aches as my pelvis stretched and my ligaments softened up.

ย

Yet this mother and her son Died!ย  This story is screaming bad reaction to the drugs she was being administered, and yet I have not found any information about that in the news.ย  I guess I am going to have to give her a call.
