Day of Faith: Personal Quests for a Purpose – 3. Rachel Esplin

Harvard Hillel: Day of Faith Series from Harvard. This vid is a young LDS Woman sharing her faith: enjoy!
I loved just about everything she had to say, except the assumption that all of us Mormons back on the farm out west were bigots and it took her attending Harvard and hangin with the elightened to get to a place of intellectual stimulation powerful enough to overcome the entrenched bigotry and prejudices of the mormon people. Poppycock! Mormons are the most big hearted, “everyone’s welcome in the tent” people I know on planet earth, and I’ve spent forty years lovin’ and learnin’ from em. The worst bigots I know are those who hate me for my faith and politics…and just about everyone of those types in my life have a big fat LIBERAL pasted on their forehead.

Sweetness and Light: Obama’s Own Blind Spot About Bonuses

Obama’s Own Blind Spot About Bonuses

“President Barack Obama said it was “shameful” for Wall Street to walk away with $18.4 billion in bonuses last year . . .
. . . in the depths of a recession. Leaning his elbows on his knees, with his mouth clenched, Obama lashed out at the executives and employees who were found by the New York state comptroller to have earned the sixth largest bonus haul on record last year.
“That is the height of irresponsibility,” Obama said before a meeting with Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.”

We will skip over the part about responsibility and tax cheat Timothy Geithner being mentioned in the same sentence.

Instead, we will remember that the selfsame Mr. Obama gave his campaign staff bonuses after the November election.”

Go read the whole post, it is maddening.

Dr. Phil: Single Mothers, Is Ann Coulter right or wrong?

UPDATE:
Dr. Phil decided NOT to have Ann on his show. Not sure why, especially given the fact that for the past two days he has railed against a single mother of fourteen without even once delving into the long term consequences of all of those children being raised without a father and then set loose on society.
If you would like to protest Dr. Phil tucking tail and running from the moral questions around single motherhood, please contact his guest coordinator to object!
Shane Marashi Sr. Audience Coordinator

The most important issues beyond money, health, and the immediate concerns inherent in one third of our young mothers choosing to give birth without a husband are in fact the long term consequences on our society and the fallout from so many children being denied a loving father in their lives.
Dr. Phil is a coward because he knows the debate will be long, painful, and controversial and he might risk offending his base viewers and advertisers by having Ann and her moral views on his show.
Shame on you Dr. Phil. Right is right and if we can’t be honest about the massive problems single mothers choices will have on the long term health of our nation, why bother talking about a woman with fourteen children? Why not have twenty? Thirty? A Million? No, wait, that is what we have in America, 1.3 million children being born every year without a father in the home. If you don’t have the guts to stand up and say that is WRONG, you should not be judging anything on your show.
Our children and grandchildren deserve to know the truth about family life.
And without the adults standing up and saying boldly “Choosing to bring a child into the world without being married is WRONG”, our daughters will never understand the suffering and pain they are shoving on innocent children.

Dr. Phil is going to have Ann Coulter on his show.

ANN COULTER says, “Look at almost any societal problem and you will find it is really a problem of single mothers.”

“By their own choices, [single mothers] consign their children to starting life with second-class status.”
“We also have a term for the youngsters involved: ‘the children of divorce,’ or as I call them, ‘future strippers.”
Are you a single mother with a strong opinion about ANN COULTER’S comments on single motherhood?
Do you feel like your child or children are “starting life with second-class status” because you are a single mother?
Are you a child of a single mother and take offense when Ann calls you a “future stripper?”
Or do you feel single motherhood is indeed a “plague,” and that all social programs and welfare help to support single-mother households?
Do you think it is unfair that your tax dollars go to support so many single mothers?
If you have a strong opinion on ANN COULTER and what she says about single mothers, please let us know.
PLEASE ONLY RESPOND IF YOU ARE WILLING TO APPEAR ON A SHOW WITH DR. PHIL!
Hey Ladies! Have at it – Contact the Dr. Phil show if you would like to confront Ann Coulters Claims about single motherhood in her new book Guilty!
I would encourage all of you to read the book first though to understand the issues.
My husband bought me her book Guilty for my birthday last week and I have read the chapter on single mothers. It is the battle cry for children to have the love and nurture they DESERVE from a Father. I applaud Ann for her powerful and factual focus on the family.
The children of the future deserve nothing less than the love and tender nurture from a mother and a father who love and provide for them and have the marriage covenant wrapped around them.
I wholeheartedly endorse Ann’s book Guilty as a powerful antidote to pop cultural messages and court decisions that have eroded family sovereignty, and I applaud Dr. Phils decision to air the debate on television, it should be a wonderful and educational hour of television.
After Dan Quayle was borked by the media in 1992 on this issue, conservatives tucked tail and ran whenever the issue of single motherhood was brought up. It is time to stand up for the family and share the facts with our young people. The babies of the future are depending on us to tell the truth to the mothers and fathers of tomorrow!

Family First! Grandparents are NOT too old!

‘They say we’re too old to care for our grandchildren’: Social workers hand brother and sister to gay men for adoption
I wonder how William Wallaces uncle would have responded to his nephew being given to a couple of gay men…
Hmmm…

“The first commandment that God gave to Adam and Eve pertained to their potential for parenthood as husband and wife. We declare that God’s commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force. We further declare that God has commanded that the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between man and woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife.

We declare the means by which mortal life is created to be divinely appointed. We affirm the sanctity of life and of its importance in God’s eternal plan.

Husband and wife have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. “Children are an heritage of the Lord” (Psalms 127:3). Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, to teach them to love and serve one another, to observe the commandments of God and to be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Husbands and wives—mothers and fathers—will be held accountable before God for the discharge of these obligations.

The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity.”

The Family: A Proclamation to the World
This is a quote from a proclamation given to the world by the Apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ.
It ends with a warning:
“Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets.”
It sickens me to think of two gay men raising these children, when the grandparents are willing and able to do the job. The ideal for all children is having a mother and A FATHER to raise them.

New York Attorney David Cohen cross examines New York Parents who applied for a waiver to refuse vaccines: Sincerity Test

NY School attorney David Cohen cross examines New York parents about their belief in God; the couple applied for a waiver to refuse vaccines. This is just 9 min of a total of 90 min of this “lawyer” grilling these parents.

Unbelievable! None of my children are vaccinated and I have never had a pompous attorney grill me for my choice. My children are all in public school and all we do is sign a wavier stating that we are Philisophically Opposed to Vaccines. Religion has absolutely NOTHING to do with it.

And the Award Goes To….New York State

January 27, 2009
HARTKE IS ONLINE Presents
Our First George Orwell Award to
New York State

Blog Announces New Award Program
The George Orwell Award (the Un-Wellie) will be presented by this blogger to those who most deserve it. Future recipients of this award will distinguish themselves by their Orwellian policies, as forecast in George Orwell’s classic political horror novel, 1984. They will either be acting like Big Brother, imposing undue control and monitoring of the citizenry, denying real food to the people, setting up Ministries that do the exact opposite of what their name implies. Winners will exemplify the state of Un-Wellness.
Or, they will be Big Brother wanna be’s, attempting to thwart freedoms and impinge on civil rights by advancing totalitarian programs with misinformation campaigns, back room lobbying or monopolizing free markets and keeping small businesses out of their industry. I eagerly solicit from our readers, your nominees for this dishonor.
Today’s Award Winner
This dubious distinction is earned today, by the State of New York.
For the last three years, concerned parents have been trying to get a bill through the state legislature, to allow parents to opt out of mandatory vaccines that they do not believe are in the best interest of their children’s health. Currently, one of the only options is to declare a religious objection to such vaccines.
The Orwellian Actions of New York State
The State of New York has thwarted parental civil rights, by a “Sincerity Test.” State entities are grilling the claimants of the religious exemption in lengthy interviews, to expose their insincerity and deny their claim. Most parents undergoing this scrutiny are indeed denied their claim to forgo vaccinating their child.
Religious Freedom and Independent Thought is Obviously a Threat
To my knowledge, no major world religion has as an article of faith, Thou Shalt Not Vaccinate. But implicit in such creeds is the concept of family rule, that is, that the parents are to guide and train their child, nurture and provide for the child and make authoritative decisions for the child until such time as they are ready to do so for themselves.

Evidence of Abuse of Power

Hartke Is Online would submit the following evidence of Orwellian behavior in order to justify our award to New York State and it’s public education system, health system, and any other entities involved in this overreaching intrusion. This is a video of an attorney interviewing parents regarding their religious exemption claim.
You Tube Video–A Must See!
What you Can Do to Stop Big Brother
Letter from an advocate for legislation to end this abuse of Power:
The Religious Exemption Bill # A.883 needs immediate attention.
Here is what you need to do:
* If you are an organization, you must send a “Memo in Support” TODAY or as soon as humanly possible. AND reach out to your members to do the “If you are an individual (below).”
* If you are an organization that is NATIONAL, then write a memo and urge your NY affiliate, if you have one, to write a memo, or put both your names on it. In fact, a memo can have more than one organization’s name on it, if that is helpful to save time (but may be more work).
* If you are an out-of-state organization with national readers (like PROVE), urge your NEW YORK STATE MEMBERS OR READERS to follow instructions for “individual.” There is no reason to have people from out of state write, unless the person is a leader of a national organization or a well-known organization.
* If you are an MD, do all. IF YOU ARE AN M.D. WITH a professional affiliation that would support either or both bills, get those memos done from your organization if possible, otherwise, from yourself.
The memos must be sent to our office: (Richard N. Gottfried, Chair, NYS Assembly Committee on Health), gottfrr@assembly.state.ny.us; the Assembly Majority Leader, Ron Canestrari, canestr@assembly.state.ny.us ; the Speaker of the Assembly, Sheldon Silver speaker@assembly.state.ny.us ; and to your representative, who you can find at http://nymap.elections.state.ny.us/nysboe/ or http://takeaction.lwv.org/lwv/dbq/officials/
People who do not have email can send the letters addressed to the legislator, at Legislative Office Building, Albany, NY 12248.
If you are an individual:
You must write to your representative asking for his/her support and vote for the bill when it comes to the floor of the Assembly. Write why you think the bill is important, including if you have had to undergo extensive and intrusive questioning about your religious beliefs, or other relevant experience or information.
It is best to keep in mind this bill’s goals. You must also write to Richard N. Gottfried, Chair, NYS Assembly Committee on Health, gottfrr@assembly.state.ny.us; the Speaker of the Assembly, Sheldon Silver speaker@assembly.state.ny.us or you can make them a “cc.” You can find your representative at http://nymap.elections.state.ny.us/nysboe/ or http://takeaction.lwv.org/lwv/dbq/officials/
Please post this information as widely as you can.
