Marion G. Romney: America’s Promise

America’s Promise

“Some years ago reference was made on a local editorial page to “a super-duper, eager-beaver atheist” who “does not like Christianity” at all, “and is out to destroy it. … In a national magazine [this atheist] is quoted as thundering from her ‘pulpit’: ‘Churches are leeches. …’

“Now that she has moved on prayer and Bible reading in U.S. public schools,” the editorial continues, “her next targets, it appears, are tax-exemptions for churches, ousting chaplains from the armed services and omission of ‘God’ in courtroom oaths, on money and in the pledge of allegiance.” (Norman Vincent Peale, Deseret News and Telegram, 3 July 1964.)

An article in a recent magazine advanced and argued the thesis that America is no longer “the Christian land of the Pilgrims.”

In distinguishing communism from the United Order, President David O. McKay said that communism is Satan’s counterfeit for the gospel plan, and that it is an avowed enemy of the God of the land. Communism is the greatest anti-Christ power in the world today and therefore the greatest menace not only to our peace but to our preservation as a free people. By the extent to which we tolerate it, accommodate ourselves to it, permit ourselves to be encircled by its tentacles and drawn to it, to that extent we forfeit the protection of the God of this land.</blockquote>

Relying on that part of the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States which reads, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,” the United States Supreme Court has ruled against Bible reading and prayer in public schools. By so doing, said President David O. McKay, “the Supreme Court of the United States severs the connecting cord between the public schools of the United States and the source of divine intelligence, the Creator himself,” who, of course, is the God of this land (Relief Society Magazine, Dec. 1962, p. 878).

Now, of course, we all believe and wholeheartedly support the separation of church and state; but we must not let this wresting of the First Amendment, nor communism, nor atheism, nor any other anti-Christ influence, weaken our conviction that Jesus Christ is the God of this land nor diminish our determination to obey his laws. On such conviction and such obedience hang all our hopes so well expressed in Samuel F. Smith’s patriotic hymn:

Our fathers’ God to thee,
Author of liberty,
To thee we sing.

Long may our land be bright
With freedom’s holy light.
Protect us by thy might,
Great God, our King!

(Hymns, no. 115.)

That it may be so, I humbly pray.”

Anti War Rally: Jane Fonda in her own words

Jane Fonda was the celebrity extraordinaire at the recent Anti War rally that took place on the mall in Washington DC. Here is a clip taken from a C-Span Broadcast with commentary by me before and after her comments.
As I listened to Jane Fonda a couple of things came into my mind.
First: She claimed that during Viet Nam it took six years for the military families to “wake up” and realize how wrong the war was. But during this war it has only taken three years for the military families to wake up the “the Truth”.
You know what I think the difference is this time around?
During Viet Nam we had a whole contingent of Media Personalities who were comfortable giving aid and comfort to the enemy during a time of war. Top of the list was the “most trusted man in America”, Walter Cronkite, and his loud mouthed cohort in crime was Dan Rather. These traitors have never been held accountable for their words. John Kerry also tops the list of Vietnam Era War Traitors.
Want to know what is different this time around Jane?? The fact that with alternative Media, those Americans who would like to get both sides of the story are completely at their liberty to do so wether that comes from talk radio, C-Span, The Internet, the Blogs, and some of the print and television media here in America.
The fact that I can copy, share, and comment on your most “useful of Idiot” remarks and then put it up here on my blog to share with the ten thousand or so people who come in for a look every month is what has changed this time around.
The world is different. It has had a clear eyed view, if it has had the courage to look, to see what collectivism has wrought in our world.
Yes, things are different this time.
I predict that ten years from now Iraq will be a thriving Democracy, with a healthy economy, a robust political system, and a full partner with the Free Nations in spreading Democracy in our world. That is what I see, and what I happily predict. Every life lost during this war, every limb blasted off, every tear of every parent who has lost a loved one, every spouse, every child who now has to grow up without that parental love…every bit of blood, money, and sorrow has been worth it.
Freedom isn’t Free.
You want to know how you will be remembered by history Jane? As the biggest loudmouth idiot the West has ever produced. Yes, you are the queen of moonbattyness and your words from last saturday are just evidence that you have learned nothing from the lessons of Viet Nam. You are a traitor Jane. Useful Idiot Number one.

“This is richly ironic. It was Fonda after all who distinguished herself in the Vietnam War by glad-handing communists in Hanoi and making propaganda broadcasts for their cause, only to look on as the real destruction commenced once South Vietnam fell to her former hosts. That a similarly destructive fate awaits Iraq in the absence of American troops is a thought that seems never to have disturbed Fonda’s famous conscience.”

Henry B. Eyring: Gifts of the Spirit for Hard Times

Gifts of the Spirit for Hard Times

“I am grateful for the lovely music and for the Spirit that it has brought. I am grateful for this opportunity to be with you this evening. Many of you are here in the Marriott Center at Brigham Young University. There are thousands more listening and watching at locations across the world. I cannot see all of you, but your Heavenly Father can. He knows your name and your needs. He knows your heart. Each of you has unique challenges. I pray that I may be inspired to say the words He would have you hear.

Blessings and Challenges of the Last Days

With all of our uniqueness, we all have some things in common. We are all in the probationary test of mortality. And, wherever we live, that test will become increasingly difficult. We are in the last dispensation of time. God’s prophets have seen these times for millennia. They saw that wonderful things were to happen. There was to be a restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The true Church was to be brought back with prophets and apostles. The gospel was to be taken to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people. Most marvelous of all, the true Church and its members are to become worthy for the coming of the Savior to His Church and to His purified disciples.

But the true prophets also saw that in the last days Satan would rage. There would be wars and rumors of wars. That would inspire fear. The courage of many would fail. There would be great wickedness. And Satan would deceive many.

Yet, happily, many would not be overcome. And many would not be deceived. The fact that you are here listening tonight is evidence that you want to be among those who will not be overcome and will not be deceived. My purpose is to teach you how you can reach that happy and glorious goal.

The Holy Ghost Is the Key

The key for each of us will be to accept and hold the gift we have been promised by God. You who are members of the true Church of Jesus Christ will remember that, after you were baptized, authorized servants of God promised you that you could receive the Holy Ghost. Some of you may have felt something happen when that ordinance was performed. Most of you have felt the effects of that promise being fulfilled in your lives. I will tell you tonight how to recognize that gift, how to receive it every day in your life, and how it will bless you in the days ahead.”
