Schlafly: Parents Worry About Prescription Drugs, Too

Parents Worry About Prescription Drugs, Too
Phyllis Schlafly, perhaps the most famous Conservative Female in America, has fearlessly taken on Big Pharma once again, in this recent post:

“Since labeling kids ADHD brings more money to the schools, it’s not surprising that schools often pressure parents to get an ADHD diagnosis and put their child on Ritalin. School have also found it useful to deal with behavioral and discipline problems by giving boys a drug to get them to sit down, shut up, and do what they’re told.

The Food and Drug Administration reported on February 8 that 25 people died (including 19 children) and 54 suffered serious cardiovascular problems after taking drugs prescribed to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) between 1999 and 2003. An FDA advisory panel finally voted in favor of requiring the famous “black box” warning on these drugs.

Instead of dealing with the over-prescription of drug cocktails for children, our government is telling us we have a mental health crisis, and the remedy is universal mental health screening. A major government campaign is now underway, sweetened with federal grants, to subject all children to mental health screening.

The screening usually means having the child fill out a survey about his own behavior. If his answers don’t comport with what the so-called experts want, the kid can be referred for treatment, and treatment usually includes medication.

It’s up to parents to stop this unscientific, ineffective, and dangerous government intrusion into the minds and values of our children. State laws should require parental consent for all mental health screening, and Congress should pass the Child Medication Safety Act, to prohibit schools from denying entry to a child whose parents choose not to put him on drugs.”

Hugh Hewitt: Spotlight on Trevino as he rounds up lefty reaction to Sadaams Death

Trevino: Tears for the Devil

“As it happens, I actually agree with Farley, to varying degrees, on all those points — but what a pity this is the price for maintaining good standing with the “netroots” crowd. A man can’t say it’s good to see the tyrant gone, and be done with it.

But then, they don’t think the real tyrant is the man who hung today. That is their peculiar madness: an inability to see a fundamental good done without the reflexive, “Yes, but….” They think it a function of their power of perspicacity, but it is nothing more than the very thing that drove the dead man himself: the marriage of persistent paranoia, and enduring hate.”

It might be wrong to link this post in the Lefty Satire catagory, because it simply catalogs lefty response to Sadaams Death, found on their own blogs. But Josh’s willingness to compare these moonbats to Sadaam shows that in life, they simply satire/spoof themselves…

“but it is nothing more than the very thing that drove the dead man himself: the marriage of persistent paranoia, and enduring hate.”

Thanks Josh for taking the time to catalog the responses, I can barely stand to be in democrat chatrooms for more than a minute or two because of the all the profanity.

Happy New Year!

We just shared a wonderful meal together as a family and talked about our New Years Resolutions for Family Home Evening.
I only have one. I’ve given up chocolate in all its forms.
I did this once before, and stayed true to it for several years, but for the past several months, it has just felt like I have been eating lots and lots of chocolate sweets. This really affects my moods and my singing voice, and so I have decided to give it up for the duration. I stopped eating all chocolate in preparation for singing the Messiah, and have not taken one bite since the day before Halloween. My resolve kept me strong during the holiday months, and it has now been two full months since I’ve eaten any candy.
But this time I am taking it one step beyond and we are going to be a chocolate free house. I told the children that they can eat as much as they want at school, church, and with their friends, but that I did not want them to bring any into the house. They were pretty nice about it.
