Let’s hope todays ruling on Vioxx is the “shot heard round the world” for all Big Pharma companies. NO MORE will consumers tolerate the lies, distortions, and big advertising, followed by the “whoops, our dope kills people, aw shucks…who knew???” line of reasoning the drug companies have spewed for decades. Let them all come a tumblin’ down…

Quote from article:
“ANGLETON, Texas (AP) – A Texas jury found pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co. (MRK) liable for the death of a man who took the once-popular painkiller Vioxx.
Jurors awarded Robert Ernst’s widow, Carol, $253.4 million in damages, which is a combination of his lost pay as a Wal-Mart produce manager, mental anguish, loss of companionship and punitive damages.
The case drew national attention from pharmaceutical companies, lawyers, consumers, stock analysts and arbitragers as a signal of what lies ahead for Merck, which has vowed to fight the more than 4,200 state and federal Vioxx-related lawsuits pending across the country. Merck said it plans to appeal.
A seven-man, five-woman jury from a semi-rural county south of Houston deliberated for 10 1/2 hours over two days before blaming the drug for killing Ernst in his sleep in 2001.”

Liver Cleanse
I’m going to do a large Liver Cleanse over the next couple of days.
Here are some good links to check out if you are curious about Liver Cleansing. Go Here, Here, and Here.
I have been eating a low fat vegan diet for over two months, and recently went camping up in the beautiful Rocky Mountain National Park.
What I have noticed over the years is that the Vegan Diet has a tendency to concentrate the toxins in my liver, helping to prepare them for a flush. Also being up on the mountains tends to concentrate the waste in my liver. I almost immediately start to experience signs of Liver overload when I am at a high altitude. For me these symptoms include; asthma, skin rashes, headache, allergy symptoms, and bloating.
Since coming down off the mountain on saturday, I have had troubling asthma, as well as significant allergy symptoms. This past week I have been fasting for religious reasons (Mormons fast once a month and give the money saved from buying food to the poor in a fast offering) which I did for 24 hours on sat/sun, and followed this fast with a juice fast for two additional days. I had no relief of the allergy symptoms, in fact, they seemed to get worse.
I weaned Ben on Saturday morning before beginning my fast, and decided that it was time to really clean out my body now that he is not getting nourishment from me.
I have not done a parasite or colon cleanse this time. Just the juice fasting, but I have felt guided all week to do a large liver cleanse starting today. I have done dozens of these cleanses over the past eight years. Our Chiropractor introduced us to them back in 1997 when I was having some of the worst gall bladder attacks of my life.
Because I was the classically toxic person with a lifelong history of deadly allergies, asthma, chemical sensitivities, skin problems, etc..I have had to make some extra effort in terms of cleansing my liver.
In all of this cleansing, I have felt strongly that I should never diet or restrict my calories in any way, especially while pregnant and nursing. I have done therapuetic fasting, and certain cleansing diets, like the vegan diets and juice fasts for a period of weeks or months to aid in my cleansing efforts when I was not pregnant or nursing. However, I have had a baby on the breast for 11 of the past 17 years, so these windows of opportunity have been short.
Last summer I did two full weeks of raw eating, but stopped because Ben was looking so skinny. He missed that pure buttermilk he was getting through my breastmilk, which came from me eating a mostly vegetarian diet, but liberally sprinkled with animal foods like eggs, butter, and milk (which I have learned over the years makes the breast milk flow like cream!)
Now that he is weaned, I plan to do some fun cleansing and purifying diets over the next year or so, and see what happens in terms of my weight, health, and energy level.
Today I plan to eat a light breakfast and lunch, and then start doing the Olive Oil and Grapefruit/Lemon Juice about 3PM.
Can’t wait to see what happens!

UPDATE: August 12
I did the infusion of olive oil and grapefruit/lemon juice about three PM yesterday and WOW, I have passed lots and lots of debris already. AND, most importantly, all of my allergy symptoms are GONE! Early in the week I was also experiencing shooting pains down my shoulders, pain in my gall bladder, and had NO energy. All signs that my liver was toxic and ready for a FLUSH!
I fresh squeezed several grapefruits and lemons and added this juice to a mix of dark and light colored olive oil. Over an hour span from 3 to 4 PM yesterday I drank this infusion of oil/juice, and then stayed up in my room all evening. I also put twenty drops of Juva Flex Essential oil blend
on my abdomen right over the liver, and vita flexed in a few drops on the liver portion of my feet. (Reflexology point)
Juva Flex Ingredients: Sesame seed oil, fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), geranium (Pelargonium graveolens), rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis CT 1,8 cineol), Roman chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile), blue tansy (Tanacetum annuum), and helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum).
I took a bath, went out on the deck to do some yoga/deep breathing, and changed sleeping positions a couple times as I felt the oil working it’s way into my system.
After a couple hours I started to pass chaff and a few stones. Then through the evening I passed more and more chaff – This morning I started the day with some Calli Tea, a sunrider cleansing tea which I have used sucessfully for over fifteen years. I also drank some Fortune delight tea with action caps. A few minutes after drinking the teas I passed some large stones, as well as more chaff.
I feel like this flush was a complete success! No more allergy symptoms, (and august typically is my worst month of the year!), and no digestive pain. I believe I easily moved whatever was blocking up my digestive tract with the infusion. I have not eaten any solid foods yet today, but plan to start with some fresh fruit, and later in the day some salad and perhaps a whole grain muffin.

Quote from article:
“The Prozac Survivors group points to Magdalena Lopez as an example of violence caused by SSRIs. The 30-year-old Indiana mother recently murdered her two young sons while on one of the drugs.
At least 80,000 women each year in this country are being prescribed these drugs during pregnancy, according to researchers estimates. SSRIs are still being prescribed to pregnant women even though a May 2005 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association reported that pregnant women who take SSRIs late in pregnancy raise the risk that their babies will suffer jitteriness, irritability and serious respiratory problems during their first couple of weeks.
Leitsch finds it unacceptable that pregnant women and new mothers are still being prescribed drugs that have been known to induce violence and suicide for more than a decade. “In 1991, there was evidence of 500 deaths associated with antidepressants presented to an FDA Advisory Committee hearing investigating Prozac,” she said.”

Additional Information about Depression:

Quote:
“Doctors say they began prescribing books due to their concern that many patients were either being medicated too hastily or going untreated, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The program, called “bibliotherapy,” is also a cost-saving measure. The state-run health care system in the UK can’t afford one-to-one counseling for everyone, and patients can wait as long as 18 months for an appointment.
The National Institute for Clinical Excellence, a British health agency, endorsed bibliotherapy in December, recommending that physicians try self-help books or other kinds of counseling before medication.
“Concerns about overuse of antidepressants – and about how to treat the growing depression burden in general – have been voiced in many countries, including the U.S., making the British experiment a test case for others to watch,” the Post reports.”
Reading self help books is great – I wrote one – A Mother’s Journey contains all of my tips for helping prevent depression.
But for me the most effective thing I do every day to prevent Depression is to eat Flax seeds. I put a half teaspoon of them into my oatmeal water every morning, and let them boil along with the oats, and then eat them along with the cereal. Flax oil contains ingredients which have helped alleviate my depression. I’m sitting here eating a big bowl of it even as I blog.
Here is the recipe:
Put one quart of water in a pot, add in:
1/2 tsp whole flax seeds
1 tsp sea salt
1 cinnamon stick
3 whole cloves
1/2 c dried cherries
1/8 tsp each of whole anise and fennel seeds
3 whole cardomon pods
Hard boil this for twenty minutes to saturate the water with the oils, herbs, and spices (which all contain powerful anti-oxidents and make the oats taste great). These spices aid digestion, especially the fennel, and really up the nutrition of your breakfast.
Then I fish the cardamon pods, cinnamon stick, and cloves out of the water (it’s no fun to chomp down on a whole clove!) And then I add 1 and 1/2 cups old fashioned oatmeal to the pot. Hard boil for a minute and then turn the heat down to a simmer (low) for about twenty minutes.
I let my kids put as much sugar, cream, and butter on as they want as this helps them chow it down. We polished off a whole pot of Oats this morning, as well as a dozen rye muffins, and a huge hunk of watermelon.
Cost to feed my family breakfast from scratch? About $4.00.
Cost for me to take one Prozac pill back in 1989? $3.00.
Do the math, I’ll keep eating my flax…

American Hiroshima
UPDATE: August 4th, 2005
We finished building our bomb shelter!
We started by laying a floor of 2 by 4’s in a space big enough to fit our whole family in a sleeping position. Then we layed boxes over the top of that foundation to create a floor. We then built up walls on two sides, and used the cement of our basement for the third wall. The final wall has an entry way, and it is facing away from the one window in our basement.
On top we placed more 2 by 4’s and then covered them with some old doors. If a nuclear bomb goes off we will stack additional materials on top of the shelter to give more density to the coverage. Inside of the shelter we placed two old mattresses which give us the space of about a king size bed to accomodate our family of seven.
I called in to the Joseph Farah Radio Show today and as I expressed on the show, I believe one of the most important factors in making these efforts is to teach our children that when we are frightened, instead of getting paralyzed, we do something proactive to help ourselves.

Original Post:
For the past few weeks I have been reading about a potential “American Hiroshima” that could happen here in America this weekend.
As noted in my newsmax article on Nuclear Survival, our family is prepared to live in our home for months completely cut off from all modern convieniences like electricity, water, and any outside help from society.
Here are some links to the sorts of articles that I have been reading.
World Net Daily Article
George Putnam Column
Nicholas Kristof
Sean Osborne
This story has not been covered in the MSM, as far as I know. It is mostly the blogosphere and various online news sources like World Net Daily that have been promoting the story.
Since the 60th anniversary of Hiroshima is this saturday, I thought I would take a few minutes today to share what our family has been doing this past week to prepare.
For starters, we are psychologically prepared. We have spent years doing the research and mentally preparing for the reality of a WMD attack in America. When I informed my children that we were going to be building a bomb shelter in the basement this week, the children had surprisingly good responses to this plan. My boys, age 11 and 8 asked if they could “play” in the shelter and use it as a fort if we don’t need to use it. I told them maybe, but they understand that this saturday we are indeed going to be ready to enter the shelter and live in it for a few days if a bomb goes off anywhere in North America.
The best book I know of for Nuclear War psychological preparations is Cresson Kearny’s Nuclear War Survival Skills, which is located in it’s entirety on line. For the chapter on psychological prep go here.
For the basics on building an in home bomb shelter go here.
Quote from the book:
BASEMENT SHELTERS
…Earth-covered expedient shelters in a blast area give better protection against injury from blast, fire, or fallout than do almost all basements. But during the more likely kinds of crises threatening nuclear war most urban Americans, including those who would evacuate into areas outside probable blast areas, probably would lack the tools, materials, space, determination, physical strength, or time required to build good expedient shelters that are separate from buildings and covered with earth.
As a result, most unprepared urban citizens would have to use basements and other shelters in existing structures, for want of better protection.
Shelters in buildings, including basement shelters, have essentially the same requirements as expedient shelters: adequate shielding against fallout radiation, strength, adequate ventilation-cooling, water, fallout radiation meters, food, hygiene, etc….
….In the following paragraphs, a way to greatly improve the fallout protection afforded by a typical home basement is outlined. If improved in this manner, a basement would provide excellent fallout protection for several families….
…First, earth should be placed on the floor above to a depth of about one foot. Earth can be carried efficiently by using sacks or pillowcases, using the techniques described in Chapter 8 for carrying water.”
Nuclear War Survival Skills – Page: 46
Our family lives in a townhouse in an urban area, with no dirt available to use to buffer ourselves from radiation. The materials we do have are what we plan to use to build our shelter. Our home is packed with books and food storage. So we have decided to use books upstairs in a one foot depth to provide cover from radiation above ground, and we are going to use our food storage, packed in number ten cans (six to a box) to build the actual shelter. We have hundreds of these boxes, which are very dense and can be stacked to the ceiling if needed.
Last saturday I went to home depot and purchased 16 stud quality 2 by 4’s and we are going to use these to shore up the foundation of the shelter, and stack the boxes over our heads for a roof. My boys and I are planning on finishing the shelter this week. We had a great start on it last saturday with my husband laying the foundation and measuring it so that we all can fit in a sleeping position and will be able to sit up if necessary.
I also found some information in this article on line – go here.
We have a three month supply of water in 55 gallon containers, but I also purchased six cases of water bottles at Sam’s Club, as well as three cases of juice. We also bought two large boxes of Baby wipes for personal hygeine, and a three month supply of toilet paper. I also bought the supplies to make a basement toilet using a five gallon paint can, a toilet seat, a box of garbage bags, and a large container of mulch. After every use of the toilet, a cup of mulch can be thrown on the waste to help dry it up and contain odors until it can be disposed of later.
We already have our 72 hour kits packed and ready to go if we need to evacuate, but I am praying that if anything happens we will be able to just live in our own home and not have to leave for any reason.
As always, my web site has all of the most prudent information regarding how to give birth and nurture a baby if you have pregnant women in your home. Go Here for more on how to birth, nurture, breastfeed, and care for a newborn in a survival situation.
Hopefully the terrorists will not attack and we won’t have anything to worry about, but if feels good to have the water, food, and shelter our family will need to survive a nuclear blast.
We have been planning to go camping in Estes Park with our friends from church all summer. Paul and I made the decision that we will NOT be hunkered down in our shelter this weekend. We plan to go up on the mountain and have a great time with our kids. If we hear of an attack, we will hightail it home and resume living in our basement.
I believe this is the most important psychological preparation one can take, to go on living as if nothing were going to happen, but to be prepared to resort to survival living if an attack occurs.
The terrorists “win” if we are terrorized before an attack.
Please make some prudent preparations in your own home TODAY!

In regards to those who post comments talking about how hard it is to detonate a nuclear device and/or those who minimize the dangers of a WMD attack. Being in the “survival” community for years, I have learned that some people have to take a “it won’t be so bad” attitude, simply because they cannot imagine the reality of life without modern water, electricity, and fast food. And, of course on the opposite end of the spectrum we have the “chicken littles” who run around screaming “the sky is falling”.
I like to take a moderate approach in terms of how I live my day to day life. Our family has made the simple preparations, and we spend a couple days each year updating supplies, inventorying and purchasing food, replacing water, and organizing our supplies. This is part of our lifestyle. We are not tucked away in a cave somewhere waiting for the “bomb”.
I have friends who have told me they were concerned about appearing “gullible” and “paranoid” to friends and family if they began making preparations for survival.
Every family has to decide how much money, time, and effort they will put into preparing. But realize that purchasing the basic survival supplies is relatively inexpensive, and can be done over a weekend. Just think about trying to purchase water, food, and a few shelter supplies AFTER an attack! Let this picture in your mind motivate you NOW to get the supplies ahead of time!
The prophet of the church I attend gave a great talk in General Conference right after 9-11. He said:
Quotes from the talk:
“Occasions of this kind pull us up sharply to a realization that life is fragile, peace is fragile, civilization itself is fragile. The economy is particularly vulnerable. We have been counseled again and again concerning self-reliance, concerning debt, concerning thrift. So many of our people are heavily in debt for things that are not entirely necessary.”
We cannot provide against every contingency. But we can provide against many contingencies. Let the present situation remind us that this we should do.
“As we have been continuously counseled for more than 60 years, let us have some food set aside that would sustain us for a time in case of need. But let us not panic nor go to extremes. Let us be prudent in every respect. And, above all, my brothers and sisters, let us move forward with faith in the Living God and His Beloved Son.”
“The Constitution under which we live, and which has not only blessed us but has become a model for other constitutions, is our God-inspired national safeguard ensuring freedom and liberty, justice and equality before the law.
I do not know what the future holds. I do not wish to sound negative, but I wish to remind you of the warnings of scripture and the teachings of the prophets which we have had constantly before us.
I cannot forget the great lesson of Pharaoh’s dream of the fat and lean kine and of the full and withered stalks of corn.
I cannot dismiss from my mind the grim warnings of the Lord as set forth in the 24th chapter of Matthew.
I am familiar, as are you, with the declarations of modern revelation that the time will come when the earth will be cleansed and there will be indescribable distress, with weeping and mourning and lamentation (see D&C 112:24).
Now, I do not wish to be an alarmist. I do not wish to be a prophet of doom. I am optimistic. I do not believe the time is here when an all-consuming calamity will overtake us. I earnestly pray that it may not. There is so much of the Lord’s work yet to be done. We, and our children after us, must do it.”
“Are these perilous times? They are. But there is no need to fear. We can have peace in our hearts and peace in our homes. We can be an influence for good in this world, every one of us.
May the God of heaven, the Almighty, bless us, help us, as we walk our various ways in the uncertain days that lie ahead. May we look to Him with unfailing faith. May we worthily place our reliance on His Beloved Son who is our great Redeemer, whether it be in life or in death, is my prayer in His holy name, even the name of Jesus Christ, amen.”
This talk was very comforting to me at the time it was given, and it continues to be a source of comfort to me now. I pray that the same is true for you.
