Dr. Amy Tooter MD, The infamous OB who blogs at The Skeptical OB declined the offer to come on my Radio Show for a chat the other day.

In Response to my query…

“Wanna Debate on my Radio Show???”

“No, but I’m happy to debate in any neutral print forum. I want people to be able to read and review the scientific papers as part of any debate.”

Amy seems really attached to her keyboard, which she has used for the past few years to dump on all of us who like to give birth to our babes at home.

I think of her as the kill joy of the Freebirth Movement. At every juncture of her time on the web, whenever ANYONE is talking about Unassisted Childbirth or even just Homebirth, she arrives on the scene with her so called facts, figures, arrogance, and insight. Her all consuming voice cropping up any time birth is discussed long ago convinced me that she was just a Blogging sock puppet created by the Pharma Companies and that “She” is in fact ten guys on a lap top somewhere in New York City who work full time writing her blog and posting her crap all over the web.

Now, why would someone like her be created to “debate” and discredit Homebirth?

Most OB’s are very busy people, and the few Obstetricians in my circle of life, including my beloved Family Doctor who delivered my third child, don’t care where I give birth. They might be somewhat alarmed and concerned that I give birth at home alone, but none have ever suggested that I am a bad mother for this choice, and none have ever tossed out the idea that I should have my children stolen from me for “medical neglect” as Amy so regularly does on her blog, should something go wrong during a botched homebirth.

These reasonable doctors understand the risks of hospital birth, heck, they watch it every day…and they also understand that the hospital environment is not for every Mother.

Yet, Amy goes so far beyond that reasonable stance, pushing for the banning of all Lay Midwifery, and risking just about every mother out of home birth.

If “she” was to come on my radio show, the first question I would ask her is this…

“Why do you care so much where I give birth?”

And then I would ask:

“What is it about me and my lifestyle that is such a huge concern to you and your worldview?

I’ve thought about “Toots” alot since the summer of 2007 when I spent so much time debating the ten guys who play her on the internet.

And the best way to describe her stance is to compare “her” to the many people throughout my life who have tried to kill my Faith in Jesus Christ. Throughout my childhood and teens and especially as a Young Mother rubbing shoulders with other women of Faith who were Homeschooling, I have come in contact with many, many people who were deeply distressed about my membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

From teachers in the public schools to high school friends who had been indoctrinated in Anti Mormon Literature, to the various Moms who attended homeschool support groups and prayer meetings, the overwhelming concern these people have had for my soul and eternal salvation has been a drumbeat of questions, queries, and qualms about my personal spiritual beliefs.

Since I was a young child I have had others express so much concern for my soul, that it has just been a pattern in my life that when it comes out that I’m one of “those Mormons” the various hyperbolic stressing that is immediately directed at me and my family is almost funny.

Almost, because no one likes to be rejected for their beliefs, and especially when I was younger, it hurt to have people reject me because of my spiritual beliefs.

I have just ignored the concerns and keep attempting to live up to the covenants and promises I made at Baptism and in the Temple. And I try not to get too upset when new friendships end and relationships are strained from this unfair judgement and concern.

But that overwhelming concern for the state of my soul from the many people in my life has been nothing compared to the campaign waged against homebirthers by Big Pharma Pill Pushers who have an overconcern for the physical lives of mothers and babes (And their own profit stream) and an underconcern for the short and long term effects of Medical Birth on the spiritual, emotional, financial, and especially physical wellbeing of Families.

The pharma whores like Dr. Amy Love to scream about homebirth death, but they never seem to talk about hospital birth morbidity. Morbidity as defined by any medical intervention that leads to damage in the Mother or the Baby beyond normal birth discomfort. I’m talking about things like post partum infections, paralysis, fourth degree cuts on the body, fistulas, episiotomies that won’t heal, forceps injuries to the mother and the baby, and psychological trauma etc etc…

The many blogs that have been created to discredit us and fudge the data and the thousands of chat room trolls who post all over the web trying to shut up and shout down those of us who are activists and attempting to share good information with families are evidence that the Pharma companies are addicted to their revenue stream and want NO DISSENT from the type of tortuous birth they sell so effectively to We The People.

The ten guys who plan Dr. Amy Tooters MD on the web have used every rhetorical trick in the book to present home birth in the worst possible light. Yet oddly enough, they have not taken things to the next step and given her a voice on the web. NO Talk Radio Interviews, NO Television appearances, NO pictures of her family and only one little picture of a person claiming to be Toots.

This is odd because most Bloggers who show the type of passion she consistently evidences on “her” blog use every new media tool to promote the message they are trying to share; You Tubes, Blog Talk Radio, Interviews on Radio and Television, etc etc..

Perhaps the PR Whores who play her on the internet believe that with The Education Establishment, Movies, Television, News, Music, Print, and Radio covered so effectively with the “All Medical Birth All the Time message” in every possible education and propaganda format possible, they did not need to take it to the next step with Ducktor Amy Toots MD and give her a real voice and a face on the web.

The thing is sock puppetry on the web works for a time, and then BAM, in one second you can be exposed.

I’ve been doing some research and the only person in my search who has claimed to interview Dr. Amy in person is the Journalist Jennifer Block who wrote the book Pushed.

Since we all know that one of the most effective tools the Medical Profession uses to keep the money rolling in is Controlled Opposition, lately, I have been thinking that Jennifer was hired to write a fake book, interview a fake internet personality, and has played the role of useful idiot on her Blog on the web to help the cause of confusion and obfuscation around Childbirth Choices.

Time will tell. We are fast approaching the day when no more will those who have lied and used fraud and deception to sell products and services to consumers be able to deceive and controll the message as the Medical Profession has coercively controlled health care and especially birth for the past hundred years in our society.

Change is here and funny enough, its not the top down world government control every aspect of: humanity, population, health, energy, trade, fascistic, collectivist, united nations, and world government socialistic behemoth, that President Obama has been pushing for the past twelve months.

Nope. All indicators are pointing to the fact that…

What’s going on in California? Why has the maternal mortality rate risen so sharply?

Once in a while I go read Dr. Amy Tooter MD at the skeptical OB just to see what she’s bleating about, and as I read the top article on her blog last night, was gobsmacked that she acknowledged the increasing maternal mortality rate as being problematic. For a minute I wondered if she had asked Ina May Gaskin to guest blog a post for her.

The post was so intellectually honest, I had to actually go skim through all of her posts from the past few weeks just to make certain I was in fact on Dr. Amy Tutuers Tooters MD Blog.

In previous posts she had been blogging about another dead homeborn babe on the Mothering board, made fun of Natural Healing Friend and Writer Mike Adams, Dumped on Gloria Lemay, Rikki Lake, Natural Birth Promoters, Janet Fraser, and blamed Alaskas Teen Pregnancy Problem on the Palin family.

Nope, that’s our girl.

But WOW, what an interesting post decrying the increase in Maternal Mortality in California. It was so well thought out, so reasonable, and just so amazingly informative, I had to marvel. Still sort of feeling floaty and high, like whew….breakthrough.

After reading this paragraph:

“Is the rising C-section rate responsible for the rising maternal mortality rate? Without patient level data we cannot know, but it certainly is a possibility. I have written in the past about the diminishing returns of an ever increasing C-section rate and predicted that there would be a point at which the risks to mothers would outweigh the benefits to infants. I await the release of the California report to find out if we have reached that point.”

And then backing up to read the post written a few months ago about the diminishing returns of Cesarean. I think we can safely say, if you have not already been saying it to yourself for the past few years of Dr. Amys constant and consistent message of PROVING to anyone who cares to listen that she is right on every topic related to motherhood that was ever discussed by God and Man, that she is in fact the absolute PROOF of the existence of CONTROLLED OPOSITION. ie (OK, today we’ll toss out a few scraps from the medical table, because hey, the stats on maternal mortality ARE looking a little bleak, and we can’t have Amy losing all of her credibility with an increasingly incredulous and hostile female american birthing population…) So, have her question things a little bit, no big deal, and then it makes her LOOK somewhat authoritative and hey that MD after her name is “all she needs”…

Sure, when she started writing her blog, way back, she was critical of the various messes that she witnessed in the hospital. Hey, an industry that murders the American People by the tens of thousands every month with properly prescribed drugs has to have its critics, although most of them tend to be run out of town on a rail the minute they question any sort of medical orthodoxy.

But when she started writing her Homebirth Debate Blog, a few months after I challenged just about anyone willing to debate me on my web site in an article titled Family Sovereignty , I have to wonder about the timing, the topics chosen to write about, which if you read through her blog today and do a quick scan from those first few posts back in May of 2006, she has been ripping the same topics ad nauseum every since she started typing.

It was almost a game with me. I would post an entry on Lotus Birth and a few days later she was dumping on Lotus Birth. Now, I am NOT saying that Amys blog was just set up to debate me without really debating me, (don’t want to send any traffic to that evil Jenny Hatch), she dumps on anyone who makes the case for normal, natural birth.

Certainly she has made many enemies over the years, and just about the whole natural childbirth world collectively despises her and revolts against her pathetic attempts to deprive us of our Freedom and Sovereignty as Mothers. But I will claim that the timing of some of her posts were kinda funny, as juxtiposed with some of the things I was writing here and there on this blog about homebirth, and since the point of this blog is to convince Mothers and Fathers to give birth alone, at home, it does make me wonder.

The very first essay I wrote back in the day, after I weaned my fourth child, and decided to start writing on Family Freedom in 1999 was in fact the essay Family Sovereignty. It is the theme of all of my work on the web. The web site where it was first hosted in 2001 was taken down this past summer for financial reasons, but it is still hosted at various places around the web, here on this blog, and is a chapter in my book Elijah Birth. The silly thing is, when I wrote this paragraph:

“As I have struggled to make decisions for and in behalf of my children until they are old enough to make their own choices, I have come to adopt a few principles and beliefs about Knowledge, Freedom, and Self Government. I hope to create a dialog on Family Sovereignty that moves way beyond the current supposedly relevant debates over day care and nationalized health care. I am interested in debating with those professionals who think they know best how children should be birthed, nurtured, healed, and educated and would use the courts to force their cult of professionalism on those of us who are following our hearts to a more gentle and empowered lifestyle. So, let the debate begin….”

I was not really concious of the level of animosity, hate, rage, rejection, and fear those words would bring into my life.

Now Perhaps Amy thinks that she has been debating me in the marketplace of ideas on her blog, and in a way she has, and she has boldly and confidently challenged Rikki Lake to debate her anytime and anyplace.

“I’d be happy to debate you in any neutral forum of your choice, Ms. Lake. How about it?”

But Rikki is a busy celebrity mom who had a homebirth and made a documentary and while I’m certain she is well educated and could handle herself perfectly in any forum with the infamous Dr. Amy Tutuer, Tooter MD, I’m not so sure it is worth her time to debate someone licking the boots of the pharma companies 24/7 on her blog.

I, on the other hand, live for debate, and have researched, taught, practiced with my own babes and written about birth nearly non stop for the past twenty one years. It is my passion, my love, and my hobby.

I would love to debate you Amy, Any time, any forum, any place, in person or in a chat room. You love to throw your facts, figures, studies, arrogance, “wisdom” and wit around the web, why not debate ME?

Recently you seem to be questioning of technology and technocratic birth and seemed to indicate that perhaps TOO MUCH TECHNOLOGY might be problematic to Mothers, although we all know eating and drinking in labor is absolutely unnecessary, the Aussie Medical Establishment is throwing out junk science and junk studies, we all evolved from slime so just get over yourself – that body you think was created in the image of God is just a broken mass of evolutionary mistakes…you speak with such authority, verve, and clarity. Dare we say, Boastful Confidence and Absolute Medical Authority?

With such confident and clear medical facts, figures, and AUTHORITY on your side, you wouldn’t be afraid to debate little ol’ me now would ya?

Don’t you think that our blogs have constituted a “neutral print forum” for the past four years?

Come on, get out of your comfort zone. Time to go public. You don’t have anything on You Tube, Blog Talk Radio, nobody has ever heard your VOICE, those rumors about you being a bunch of Big Pharma PR hacks really need to be settled once and for all. Show us the birth certificate…wait, that’s the presidents shtick.

My radio show would be a great place to let people know that you really exist. You have a voice, you can defend your indefensible positions to an audience of listeners…

If you don’t do this, people may think that all you are is a big wad of scientific dilly dallying nothings. Sort of like the Climategate Paperwork, with the hockey stick graphs, and connecting dots and spewing so called facts and figures.

It’s time to get real.

Dr. Amy’s cackling about dead babes in Colorado

This most recent post reminds me of the “statistically significant” death rate of various birth stories pulled from the Mothering Discussion Room Archive that Dr. Amy did a few weeks ago.

With the title: The horrifying death toll of homebirth in Colorado Amy begins the post by claiming that the various babes who have been lost during homebirth are statistically significant as compared to hospital born counterparts.

What she fails to mention is the fact that mothers who choose homebirth and have a baby die almost NEVER return to the hospital for a subsequent birth. We homebirthers know that sometimes babies die despite all efforts to make certain they will live. But that does not mean we will subject ourselves and our little ones to the various indignities and defilements of a profession gone mad.

The comment section tied to this post has some interesting insights, with a few analytical types questioning her statistics.

I wonder when and if Dr. Amy (who is so pro vaccine she may as well be a paid pharma whore for the drug companies) is going to talk about the “statistically significant” miscarriage rate of those mothers who have willingly accepted the h1n1 vaccine while pregnant?

She always has so much poo to fling at the homebirth community, dumping on us constantly for our choice to live free from medical slavery. What about those Moms who have been the victims of genocide as their children have been ripped from their wombs by a toxic cocktail of drugs and toxins that were designed to cause miscarriage and sterility?

What? No indignation? NO Rage? NO thoughtful point by point post to scream and yell about the dead babies who are being poisoned in our society right under our noses?

Shame on you Dr. Amy! Your defense of the indefensible is sickening and putrid to observe. Children are dying and being permanently harmed by this toxic brew of injectible chemicals and you as a health “expert” stand silently by while the death toll rises. How dare you question my choice as a woman to give birth free from the machinery and drugs… You love to talk about death and what will prevent dead babies, why not do a post on the many babes who have been murdered the past few weeks in America and around the world when Mothers rolled up their sleeves and took a shot of poison in the form of a “health promoting vaccine”?

Whose your Daddy? Jenny Hatch responds to Evolutionary Obstetrician Dr. Amy Tuteur MD

I was just over at the Home Birth Conclusion….I mean, Debate Blog and read this post by Dr. Amy about Evolutionary biology.

For me, this is the crux of the debate and it is why I will never come to a meeting of the minds with people who believe what she believes.
She Said:

“A basic principle of homebirth advocacy is that women are “designed to give birth”. A variety of further claims flow from this: birth shoulded be “trusted” because it is designed to work; the incidence of death in childbirth must be low or “we wouldn’t be here”; complications are caused by intervening with the natural process instead of respecting it. These claims are spectacularly wrong because the basic principle is spectacularly wrong.

Women are not “designed”. Their bodies are the result of evolution. Evolution does not create perfection. It produces a wide variation in many traits and then selects for those that improve survival in the existing environment. The scientific discipline of evolutionary biology seeks to apply our knowledge of evolution to understanding the basis of human health and health problems. It has important implications for our understanding of childbirth and it reveals why claims that women are “designed” to give birth vaginally are both unscientific and foolish.”

Why would I as a Christian Woman who believes that my husband and I are divinely created in the very image of our Heavenly Parents ever in a million years go to someone like her for help with our births?

It’s one thing to use a doctor who has a foundation of Judeo/Christian or Muslim faith who believes in God and that he is our Heavenly Father. It is quite another to go to a doctor who has believed every scientific lie taught to him in medical school about evolutionary biology.

If that evolutionary doctor was delivering my child, his basic premises and beliefs, you know, that I evolved from slime and my genetic and biological mutations have made my pelvis WAY too small to deliver a large child, or any child without his help, would most certainly impact his attitudes and beliefs about childbirth, my childs birth. Why would I as a faithful woman pay him thousands of dollars to practice on my divinely created body?

See, I don’t just believe that I am created in the image of my Heavenly Parents, I KNOW IT. It is one of the foundations of my life.
Ironically the evolutionary doctor who would take issue with me birthing without his help would have me transfer all of my Faith in God to Faith in Him and his drugs and surgical interventions to birth my child.

Not going to happen.

I KNOW who my Daddy is. And I know that he designed birth perfectly, I know that the various ebbs and flows of hormonal connectedness and interactions were designed by a loving Heavenly Parent who is only a prayer away while I am in labor.
I KNOW that my body has the ability to birth alone, safely, happily and perfectly at home.

The scriptures have counseled me to put all of my Faith in God. Not in the fleshy realm where doctors live, breath, and function. I love the quote that says “what if something went wrong during my birth and all I had to trust in was GOD?”

In Proverbs 3:5 it says
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”

In 2 Nephi 4:34 this advice is repeated again:

“O Lord, I have trusted in thee, and I will trust in thee forever. I will not put my trust in the arm of flesh; for I know that cursed is he that putteth his trust in the arm of flesh. Yea, cursed is he that putteth his trust in man or maketh flesh his arm.”

I don’t particularly Trust Birth, I trust the Lord, whose daughter I am, who is sending these little children down to our home to live and be taught and loved and cherished. I have found that by trusting the Lord to help me while I birth, I have developed a greater Love and Faith in Him. And I defy the Godless Professional who would step in between my relationship with my Father in Heaven and start dictating to me what I should or should not do as a mother.
