Vets For Freedom

Pete Hegseth Debates the cause of the Iraq War on the BBC
Pod Cast of the Whole Debate

On December 11, 2007, in London’s grand Westminster Hall, Vets for Freedom Executive Director Pete Hegseth, and his esteemed debating partner William Shawcross, achieved an unexpected, and dramatic, upset. The sold-out audience of over 2,200 was swayed—overwhelmingly—by their defense of the motion, “The surge is working, let’s win before we leave.”
Of the 455 “undecided” voters who arrived in the hall, over half (234) later voted to support Hegseth and Shawcross. By contract, the “leave Iraq now” position gained only 67 votes and the “negotiated settlement” position gained just 64 votes. Overwhelmingly, previously undecided voters left the hall convinced that we must win in Iraq.
“There is nothing we can do about the pre-conceived notions people held when they entered the hall,” said Hegseth “but I’m ecstatic that we were able to convince so many people about the merits of the ‘surge’ and the need to win in Iraq. I was told it would be a hostile audience; but these results proves that anyone, anywhere can be convinced, provided they hear the facts on the ground.”
Overall, the “negotiated settlement” position received the most final votes, however it had overwhelming support before the debate began. But in a dramatic turn, the Hegseth/Shawcross position overtook the “leave Iraq now” position in the final tally, overcoming a 129-vote deficit from the initial vote. See complete results below.
The debate will be shown in its entirety on BBC World during the weekend of January 5/6, and Vets for Freedom will send out a notice when it appears.

WND: Mother warns about Nazi Police State in Colorado – Medical Fascism is here!

Medical Neglect is a term that should be banished from our lexicon of legalisms. Allopathic Fascism is something that should be confronted and then banned by our society.

The True Face of Birth: Unity

Rixa had this to say about her vision of unity in the birth reform movement: Go here

“Love is a tremendous motivating force. I challenge you to join me in transforming our verbal swords into plowshares. Let’s turn the endless debates into something more beautiful and more useful: a Vision of Unity.”

I completely endorse Rixa’s vision and hope for soothing the debates around birth. I have been a loud voice defending Unassisted Birth and have used the most extreme rhetoric possible to make the case for autonomous birth and perhaps by so doing, what has perhaps been lost in the crosshairs of my words is the fact that I support any woman giving birth however she feels comfortable. And be willing to live and let live. I honestly don’t care how other people choose to live day to day. I only feel the need to articulate why and how I birth to make the case that this form of parturition is in fact just another lifestyle choice that is valid. Because of my concern that we might be outlawed, I have vamped up my defense to a much higher level these past few years.
But one of my New Years Resolutions is to tone it down a little and not get lost in the endless debates, recognizing that every form of birth is valid and important in the various situations where it is needful. The ultimate principle is that Mothers should be supported in searching for the type of scenario that feels right to them.
That being said, IF some busybodies in the government decide to outlaw homebirth, I will fight back. We should never be afraid of debate. Even if it feels just a little contentious, or in the case of birth, alot contentious. I’ve said it before, but the CLASH of Ideas is the sound of freedom!!! (Lady Bird Johnson)
