Camping!!

My three oldest teens are at camp this week. Allison is a fourth year camper and Shelly is a 7th year Youth Camp Leader.
Jeff is down at the sand dunes with his scout troop. Today they were going to hike up a 13’er, a thirteen thousand ft. high mountain. His scout master is a semi professional mountain climber, so I’m sure they are having a great time.
Allison went on her 4th year hike early this week, and the guy who was in charge sent a couple pics to the parents this morning. I thought I would share one because it showed the majesty of the Colorado Mountains. This is a far cry from my own camping days in michigan, when the mosquitos were fierce and the hike was simply to get in our miles before we headed to the lake for a swim.
The girls hiked for miles and then landed at the camp site in Bailey Colorado, which is one of the most beautiful places in the world.

I’m excited to have Shelly, Allison, and Jeff home tomorow. It has been awfully quiet around our house this past week. I told Paul that if they all leave home at 18, in five years it could just be he and I and our two youngest sons. Very weird to think about.

Huge weight gains reported by patients on prescription drugs

Huge weight gains reported by patients on prescription drugs

“Thousands of people who take prescription medicines for everyday conditions are gaining large amounts of weight as an unexpected side effect, scientists have warned.

Researchers, who found that some patients were putting on up to 22lbs in a year, say that the drugs may even be contributing to the nation’s rocketing obesity epidemic.”

I gained 50 pounds and completely lost my overall health the year I was court ordered to eat the dope of the medical profession. I was given Haldol, Stelazine, Lithium, Prozac, and later in the year thyroxine for my dysfunctional thyroid gland during my year of chemicals.
This chemical cocktail overwhelmed my liver and kidneys and was stored in various and sundry places in my body. Interestingly enough, the year after I came off all of the meds, I gained an additional fifty pounds, so that I was 100 pounds overweight during the time my body tried to de-tox. I have learned that this fat and water storage is the bodies attempt to pull the chemicals away from the heart and brain to keep them safe while they are slowly released from the cells.
My weight has always been 30 pounds more than normal in the intervening 17 years, and at some points I have been back up to that 100 pounds overweight place while my body dealt with various detox situations.
For those of you who believe our obesity epidemic in America is tied to overeating, I would suggest that we have a couple generations of people who have been under nourished and over dosed with medicines.

Feinstein and Lott: Thought Police Extraordinaire

I watched a portion of this interview on sunday night, and I was struck once again by Senator Feinsteins claim that Americans are “tired” of all of the debate and controversy swirling around our political system. It is obvious she wants to back to the 70’s and early 80’s when conservatives had a few newspapers, magazines, and think tanks. No C-Span, No talk radio, No Rush, No Internet, No Blogs, No Chat Rooms, Few conservatives allowed as professors on college campuses or working as editors/reporters in the media. Mostly total top down control of everything that was heard on the airwaves and the socialists running congress for 40 years.
Ms. Feinstein seems to forget, if she ever knew, the infamous quote by Lady Bird Johnson:
“The clash of ideas is the sound of freedom.”
We need healthy, hearty debate in this country, and if the congress is a bunch of constipated old fogeys who want to status quo, let’s replace them with some dynamic freedom lovers from any and all political parties.
I suppose they aren’t aware of how awful it sounded to have those words spewing out of their mouths when so many of us are still giddy with the excitement of New Media.
Oh Well…..As Rush said on the radio the other day, their cluelessness just makes it that much easier to make the point that Congress is filled with a bunch of people on both sides of the isle who have no interest in hearing from “we the people” and/or being accountable to us when they dump amazingly bad legislation on the presidents desk.
Here are a couple of other insights:
More Here
Dean Barnett:

“Let’s talk about why Diane Feinstein is the worst Senator in history. And I’m not just talking about American history. I’m talking Roman history, all the mock student governments in history, the whole ball of wax. I’m also including fictional Senators in this assessment like that really mean guy in “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” and that scummy Nevada Senator from “Godfather II.”

Of anyone who has ever borne the title Senator under any circumstances, Diane Feinstein is the worst.”

And Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit Fame has links to the Immigration Bill Roundup.
He also had this to say about those politicians who like Socialism:

“Socialism is inherently boring, which is why its main enthusiasts are “bores themselves” people with high boredom thresholds, like professors and politicians.”

HEE hee hee

UPDATE:
Surprise, Surprise, John Kerry is for the Fairness Doctrine being re-established TOO~!
Go Here
YOu Liberals just SLAY me. I have an idea for ya. Why don’t you round up a bunch of liberals talkers and start your own radio station! Go ahead and throw your ideas out into the marketplace and see if you have any takers.
What????
You already tried that?
Oh, Air America was the overblown, hiped up, “we found all the best people we could”, and even then nobody was interested in listening? At least not enough to make it commercially viable?
Man, what a bummer. Liberal ideology only fits into government systems like public education, public television (PBS), Public Radio (NPR), and in the hallowed halls of congress. Government funding of the promotion of socialism. HMMMMmmmmm.
Hey, I have an idea, why don’t we unfund all of the public funding of liberalism and THEN see what happens to the socialism of our elites. I believe it will go the way of the horse and buggy and the candle and matches when cars and electricity showed up.
Socialism is DEAD!!! Hillary and John Kerry and Barack have not realized it yet, but it is DEAD!
America is a freedom lovin capitalistic country and if we try to mix causes by socializing any more of our society we will slowly choke freedom at its source.
I believe we should end all welfare in America. Corporate welfare being top of the list.
Let the market decide which ideologies and which companies will profit and survive. And let the people decide what they want to listen to on the radio, and on the television, and on the internet.

WND: Untreatable TB threat ‘apocalyptic scenario’

Untreatable TB threat ‘apocalyptic scenario’
QUOTE:

“It was in March 2006 when researchers reported their encounter with the extensively resistant TB strains. Within a few months, a cluster of “virtually untreatable” XDR-TB cases was reported in South Africa, aggravated by a high prevalence of HIV.

“All but one of the 53 patients died in an average of 25 days after samples were taken for drug resistance tests,” the agency said. Then Speaker’s case, “focused attention on the need to address the TB epidemic as an immediate international priority.”

“A highly important element of the plan is a steady supply of quality drugs to treat MDR-TB and XDR-TB in underserved countries,” said Dr. Marcos Espinale, executive secretary of the Stop TB Partnership. “The Partnership’s Global Drug Facility is ensuring supply of these drugs to a growing number of countries, after our Green Light Committee has verified that applicant countries meet its technical standards and will use the drugs correctly.”

MDR-TB is defined as being resistant to main first-line drugs such as isoniazid and rifampicin. More than 400,000 such cases are reported each year, and it emerges generally when it is spread from one person to another, or the drugs used to battle ordinary TB are mismanaged, allowing a resistance to develop, officials said.”

And Barbara Simpson had some good insights on this topic as well:
TB or not TB? That is the question

“If anyone contracts TB because Speaker ignored those travel warnings, there could be some interesting lawsuits. Willfully exposing people to infectious diseases is not something juries look kindly on; there’s precedent for such responsibility.

Interestingly, Speaker, who’s been described as looking, acting and feeling healthy, said he made the trip home because he feared dying in Italy.

Hm

mmm.

Another “hmmmm” – is that Speaker and his father practice law together, and they tape-recorded their first conversations with doctors concerning his infection.

Ah, lawyers – always thinking!

Another “hmmmm” – Speaker’s father-in-law has been a TB researcher at the CDC for 32 years.

And “hmmmm” again: The mayor of the Greek Island of Santorini, Angelos Rousso, told the AP, “There was no wedding.” The couple didn’t have the necessary papers, stayed a few days and left.

Now, Speaker is under quarantine at a medical facility in Denver for treatment and possible surgery.

Meanwhile, U.S. medical and government officials scramble to determine how and why this happened.

I wonder whether U.S. officials in Homeland Security, Congress and the CDC are so concerned only because the governments and health departments across Europe and North America, including Italy, France, Greece, the Czech Republic and Canada – as well as the World Health Organization, are involved.

The scenario does make the U.S. look inept, especially since we’re supposed to have procedures to deal with potential pandemics. After all, we’re inundated with dire predictions of influenza and bird flu, to say nothing of the real potential for terrorist use of viruses, bacteria and other biologicals and chemicals.

We’ve been told safeguards are in place. Now we know they don’t work.

That’s no surprise. If we can’t get elected officials to pay serious attention to illegal aliens crossing our southern border by the millions and the infectious diseases they bring into our country, why should we believe government could deal with contamination from international travelers, or, indeed, the potential of terrorist contamination of our population?

Why indeed?”

I really like Ms. Simpsons columns. She is a realist when it comes to terrorism and these diseases that pose such a threat.
One of the main reasons that I have felt so comfortable learning childbirth self sufficiency is that I am absolutely convinced at some point the birth machine will not be available to help me while I give birth. They never seem to consider this possibility as they spew their rhetoric about danger and irresponsibility. They think that because societal infrstructures have been so stable for the past fifty years, that we can count on them indefinitely to provide us with the so-called necessary services for life.
Doctors, what if the power, water, and food supplies are not functioning for a week? A Month? Three Months? What if your fancy shmancy machines are left desolate and disfunctional because you have no electricity? What if the oil production halts for one reason or another, or a series of natural disasters or diseases prevent us from coming to you for help when our children are ready to be born?
Doesn’t it make sense for parents to know as much as possible about home birth and breastfeeding, just in case any or all of those scenarios play out and we are unable to drive to the hospital for a birth?
Just a little food for thought.
