News Stories

A couple weeks ago I did a blog entry that was a compilation of the news stories I found interesting. I like this format for blogging about the news and will continue to do it until I am not so busy.
Here are the links and short comments about the news from the past week.
For Muslim Who Says Violence Destroys Islam, Violent Threats
Perhaps this is why moderate muslims are so reluctant to speak out. Is it possible the middle east is riddled with people who would like nothing more than to leave the muslim faith and seek out a new religion, or no religion or simply live without being forced with a gun to the head to practice a faith they don’t really believe in?

Daryl Hoole’s new book – The Ultimate Career: The Art of Homemaking for Today
I have not read the new edition of this book, but I have the old copy referenced in the article and it was excellent. I’ll review it once I get a chance to read it.
Home School burnout part 2
Ellyn Davis at the Elijah company has great insights for mothers. I am not currently home schooling, but my heart is with the home schooling movement, and I would not be surprised if at some future date we go back to homeschooling or I help to teach my grandchildren at home. Our four oldest children are currently attending a parent run charter school and this fits our family for now. I love reading the Elijah Company newsletters, and in the past the Elijah Catalog was something I always kept on hand for friends curious about home schooling. She puts so much thoughtful commentary into her articles, I just had to share this.
Study: Kneeling Position Eases Moms’ Birth Pain
I have no doubt this study is true. I have given birth five times. One was a c-section, the other four were drug free Bradley Births. (I was a certified Bradley Childbirth Educator for eight years!) Two were born at home.
My one painless birth was with my largest baby. Andrew was 11 pounds 12 ounces and I gave birth to him on hands and knees after three pushes in the sqatting position. I dropped down onto my hands and knees after his head was out and his body just slipped out with no pain. It also helped that he was born encased in the amniotic sac and I ate an excellent Vegan Brewer diet during the duration of his pregnancy.
I made certain to get 150 grams of protein a day while pregnant as I was still breastfeeding my third child and at the beginning of my pregnancy was tandem nursing two children. I weaned Allison mid way through the pregnancy and believed I was expecting twins right up until the moment I gave birth. I had done my own prenatal care for his birth, so didn’t know if I had twins or not. I have since read studies out of Germany that claim a mother does even better with 170 grams of protein a day if she is carrying twins. I would bump my protein up to that amount if I ever decided to breastfeed through a pregnancy again.

Iraq: Three year Anniversary of the War

This post is dedicated to Joe. A soldier who is deploying to Iraq in three weeks. This will be his third time serving in Iraq and we are so proud to call him an honorary member of our family.

Alexandra at All Things Beautiful has an amazing post titled The Muslim Brotherhood And The First Strike War Doctrine
“The insurgent strongholds north of Baghdad were and are still being smoked out by a massive air and ground coalition assault, the largest since three years, very likely targeting al-Zarqawi and his cohorts of terrorist thugs.
The Administration reiterates in no uncertain terms its stance on the War on Terror: Zero Tolerance. This is the unequivocal message in the national security report, released, ahem, the same day.
On the same day. we are being told that “The level of “chatter” by al Qaeda operatives is currently as high or higher than in the months prior to 9-11, and the question in many parts of the U.S. and European intelligence communities is not if al Qaeda will strike again, but when.”
Simultaneously, the Iraqi Intelligence Service documents are released giving undeniable proof that the “Bush lied people died” liberal doctrine is DEAD, and that their adopted ‘holy man’ Saddam Hussein was indeed guilty as charged. The word WMD becomes redundant. Liberals declare another Day of Mourning.”
Read the whole thing, and some of the links, it is simply brilliant analysis. It will be funny to see how the MSM tries to spin all of this news.

UPDATE: Monday March 20th
Mohamed at Iraq the Model Blog had this to say about the three year anniversary of the War today.
“Life stopped and time stopped when Saddam ruled Iraq, actually that totalitarian regime was moving backwards and dragging us with it and nothing could stop the deterioration that began the moment Saddam came to power.
We had to accept the change and live with all that would come along with it whether good or bad.
The democracy we’re practicing today in Iraq is the exact opposite of what we had for decades and until three years ago. This democracy carries the essence of life, the differences, the dynamics and yes, the failures but also the seed of a better future.
Before the liberation we were suffering and we had no hope, now we are also suffering but we have hope and I see this hope even in the words of those that are cynical about the outcome of the political process; who say they hope things will be better in four years or eight years…
When Saddam was here we didn’t have any hope and we could expect nothing good from a dead regime that cared only about its absolute existence.
Yes. We are facing enormous and dangerous challenges and this is not unexpected because the old will not easily step down and accept the loss; the old will fight back fiercely and the old here is not only Saddam and the Ba’ath, the old can be found among many of our current leaders and the mentality they carry that belong to the same generation that bred Saddam but I believe they will melt away as well because no one can go against the direction of time and the clock cannot be forced backwards.”

Favorite stories from the news these past 2 weeks

We started rehearsals for Kiss Me Kate at my childrens school this past week. I am the musical director, and so my spare time is now consumed with musical prep. I do want to at least link to my favorite news stories from the past week or so, just so you readers can take a look. I would normally do a whole blog entry for each of these stories, with commentary, but I don’t have time….so here are the stories I found relevant to natural family living these past few weeks.
I was very ill last week with a lung disease and this week busy with rehearsals….so, here are two weeks worth of news stories and editorials for you to read!
