Welcome to the National Preparedness Month Website. Thank you for your interest in this important initiative designed to promote public emergency preparedness. On this Website you will learn how you can participate in National Preparedness Month 2005 and prepare yourself and your family for emergencies.
National Preparedness Month is a nationwide effort held each September to encourage Americans to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and schools. National Preparedness Month 2005 is being co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the American Red Cross.
Throughout September, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the American Red Cross will work with a wide variety of organizations, including local, state and federal government agencies and the private sector, to highlight the importance of emergency preparedness and promote individual involvement through events and activities across the nation.
The goal of National Preparedness Month is to increase public awareness about the importance of preparing for emergencies and to encourage individuals to take action.
During September, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the American Red Cross and the National Preparedness Month Coalition Members asks all Americans to take some simple steps to prepare for emergencies including getting an emergency supply kit, making a family emergency plan, being informed about different threats and getting involved in preparing their communities.
We invite you to review the National Preparedness Month information on this Website, and to participate in this important effort.
