Colorado Fires in Pictures and Video
I live about ten minutes from Green Mountain where the so called Flagstaff fire broke out in Boulder just about a week ago. Colorado springs blew up the night before this fire broke out and as we followed the story on the news and then started to smell the smoke as it increasingly blasted into our neighborhood, I wondered if we would experience the same sort of crisis as the families two hours south in Co Springs.
I have breathing issues and found myself needing to cloister in my bedroom with air purifier, air conditioner, and humidifier as the smoke grew and grew. Â It was a difficult night because I have many friends in the Springs and was concerned about them and also my friends who live in the mountains of Boulder. Â I did not believe that the fire could come all the way across Boulder Valley and then over the ridge into Louisville where we live, but I was watching amazing scenes of evacuation from the south.
The firemen in Boulder immediately went to work and made it impossible for the fire to come over the ridge into the city. Â They are the rock stars of our community right now.
Here are all of the photos I was able to find on Twitter and Facebook. Â Plus an amazing time lapse of the Waldo Fire and an interview with Boulder Residents who were getting out of town.

Food Storage Know How Class
Last night at the Louisville Rec Center our LDS Ward hosted a Food Storage Know How Class for our Community. Â We had three speakers and a Q & A after the lectures. Â I was happy to be included in the mix and had my husband video tape my thoughts to share here on my blog.
Most of my writings revolve around Self Reliant Mothering and this class was just an extension of all of my long term efforts to put the tools of Mothering into the hands of the women who are looking for them. Â Having a supply of basic food stuffs is one of the most effective and healthy things a family can do to further their own economic and health goals.
If you would like more information about Food Storage, please go to the Provident Living web site set up by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to learn more.
The Home Storage Section of the site has great information on how to get started storing and preserving food!
And the Emergency Preparedness section of the site teaches the principles of proper Water Storage, Short and Long Term Storage, and how to help dispel fear by being prepared.
If you would like to purchase some foods available from the church’s online store click HERE.
It is my prayer that any efforts you put out as parents will help to provide for your family during life’s storms.

#jennyhatch Natural Family Living Class One: November 2011 Food Storage
I taught my class last saturday here in our home. Â It was extremely stressful attempting to incorporate the multimedia webinar stream on the web, and so I was grateful that the only person who attended was my friend Helen. Â If I had had a houseful of strangers show up to be taught the fundamentals of Food Storage my head might have exploded. Â Ben had a meltdown just before class started and was refusing to leave with his Father, who had been asked to keep the nine year old and the dog busy for two hours while I taped, needless to say I was a frazzled mess when the class started, but I gave it my best shot.
