Last night Ben was sick. He threw up his lunch and didn’t look good. He had a pasty look to his skin, and he was low energy, just wanted to sit on the couch tired. I put him to bed at 6:00 PM and he slept soundly until about 2 am.
When he woke up he was very hot. His fever was all over his body and his feet felt like paper. I immediately started putting essential oils on his feet. I used Thyme, Aroma Seize, Immupower, and Peppermint all over his feet, spine, and hands. I massaged his feet with olive oil covering the essential oils. Then I massaged his spine and tummy gently with peppermint, which has a fever reducing effect.
All of a sudden he sat up and said he wanted to take a bath. Just as I was putting him in the tub, and before I took off his diaper, he said “wait, I have to pee”. Then he peed and took off his diaper and jumped in the tub. He was still hot, but his demeanor had changed to much more alert and awake, whereas before the massage he was listless and talking about things that made no sense.
I sniffed his diaper and it really stunk, and it was like he had expelled some nasty fluids out of his body.
I poured about two cups of epsom salts into his bath water, along with this combination of oils; Three drops of Valor, two of Frankincense, two of Joy, Two of Harmony, one of Myrrh, and ten of White Angelica. Then I carefully dropped two drops of Exodus II into the back of the bath. It contains cinnamon, and needs to be used carefully so as not to burn the skin.
Then I put our bath gloves on and srubbed his skin with Dr. Bronners peppermint soap. I focused on his feet and spine. I let him soak in the bath for a couple minutes and then took him out to give him a second massage.
This time I started with a valor balance on his feet, then added oregano, peppermint, and immupower to his feet and spine. I covered these with Olive Oil, and then massaged his feet, really focusing on his digestive reflex areas. I finished the massage with peppermint to the spine and di-tone to the tummy and used olive oil all over his skin. Then I put on a clean diaper, and his jammies, and we both fell asleep about 3 am. He slept soundly until 5 am, when he woke me up and told me he was hungry.
We came downstairs and I cut him up some fresh pinapple, and made what he calls “yellow milk”. This is a hot spiced cows milk drink that I use alot when I am post partum. We ate some pinapple together and he is right now drinking his yellow milk. He has no fever, and he is normal personality, with lots of energy.
I know of many people in my community who are ill. Whooping cough has been especially bad, and yesterday when I was visiting teaching a friend told me that she knew of someone who was sent home from the doctor with no medicine because they had a virus and the doc did not have anything for them to use, as anti-biotics are not for viruses. I often think of these sorts of mothers who have a sick child, take the time and energy to go to the doctor, and are sent home with no practical help.
I can think of dozens of helpful things those moms can do wether the child is sick with a bacterial infection or a virus.
Before the cold and flu season started I put in a supply of good anti-viral essential oils. I keep epsom salts on hand, and always lots of fresh fruit. I don’t know wether Ben had a virus, bacteria, or a parasitic infection. I don’t really care. The early vomiting told me his body was feeling the need to purge something from his digestive tract. The fever told me his immune system had kicked in feeling the need to additionally purge, and the nasty toxic scent of his urine told me his second kidneys were in need of being cleaned.
What are the second kidneys??? The skin. Keeping skin clean and well scrubbed is one way of aiding the kidneys in their de-toxifying function. Many toxins are passed out of the skin, especially when one has a fever. Which is why I gave him the bath (he also requested this bath) – children most often know exactly what they need in terms of food, water, etc..
I plan to watch him closely today, feed him a light diet of fresh fruit and whatever healthy food he desires. Last night before he went to sleep he asked me to make some oatmeal for him. So I made up a little. He ate a few bites and then he said that he needed to stop because he didn’t want to barf again.
I really trust my children’s own internal wisdom, except when that “wisdom” is craving candy and sweets (but when that happens I know they are protein deficient and needing extra nutrients).
Ben “guided” me through his illness by showing me with his symptoms and his words what he needed. I also had the oils on hand to help him with his infection.
I would encourage every family to have on hand a supply of basic essential oils to help with the cold and flu season. I used a huge variety and amount of oils on my three year old last night. Some healers would be scandalized to know how many drops (all told probably 50 total drops of oil) and in what combinations I used them, but I do not have any caution or concern about using these oils on this child. I used upwards of 100 drops a day during my pregnancy with him and I know how his body responds to them.
They are literally pure energy/electricity and intelligence in every drop of oil.
