A couple weeks ago I did a blog entry that was a compilation of the news stories I found interesting. I like this format for blogging about the news and will continue to do it until I am not so busy.
Here are the links and short comments about the news from the past week.
For Muslim Who Says Violence Destroys Islam, Violent Threats
Perhaps this is why moderate muslims are so reluctant to speak out. Is it possible the middle east is riddled with people who would like nothing more than to leave the muslim faith and seek out a new religion, or no religion or simply live without being forced with a gun to the head to practice a faith they don’t really believe in?

To be Happy at Home
Daryl Hoole’s new book – The Ultimate Career: The Art of Homemaking for Today
I have not read the new edition of this book, but I have the old copy referenced in the article and it was excellent. I’ll review it once I get a chance to read it.
Home School burnout part 2
Ellyn Davis at the Elijah company has great insights for mothers. I am not currently home schooling, but my heart is with the home schooling movement, and I would not be surprised if at some future date we go back to homeschooling or I help to teach my grandchildren at home. Our four oldest children are currently attending a parent run charter school and this fits our family for now. I love reading the Elijah Company newsletters, and in the past the Elijah Catalog was something I always kept on hand for friends curious about home schooling. She puts so much thoughtful commentary into her articles, I just had to share this.
Study: Kneeling Position Eases Moms’ Birth Pain
I have no doubt this study is true. I have given birth five times. One was a c-section, the other four were drug free Bradley Births. (I was a certified Bradley Childbirth Educator for eight years!) Two were born at home.
My one painless birth was with my largest baby. Andrew was 11 pounds 12 ounces and I gave birth to him on hands and knees after three pushes in the sqatting position. I dropped down onto my hands and knees after his head was out and his body just slipped out with no pain. It also helped that he was born encased in the amniotic sac and I ate an excellent Vegan Brewer diet during the duration of his pregnancy.
I made certain to get 150 grams of protein a day while pregnant as I was still breastfeeding my third child and at the beginning of my pregnancy was tandem nursing two children. I weaned Allison mid way through the pregnancy and believed I was expecting twins right up until the moment I gave birth. I had done my own prenatal care for his birth, so didn’t know if I had twins or not. I have since read studies out of Germany that claim a mother does even better with 170 grams of protein a day if she is carrying twins. I would bump my protein up to that amount if I ever decided to breastfeed through a pregnancy again.
