Happenings

I snapped this shot of the sunrise off my deck the other morning. I had been up early walking our dog, and after the walk, I thought, “I’ve got to get a picture of this beautiful september morning!

On saturday Paul and I took a group down to the Cannery to can some dry pack foods.
Here is a picture of him pouring red wheat into the cans:

One of the families who attended brought their young son to help can some food:

And two of the ladies who attended were not LDS. They purchased some food for storage and were excited about the opportunity to serve with Humanitarian Canning efforts.

After the canning session Paul and I drove to Allisons gymnastics meet. I snapped this shot of her doing a back walkover on the beam during warm up. Pictures were not allowed during the actual meet. She did not place, but her team won 2nd overall at this invitational.

These past few weeks I have made the decision not to continue teaching my provident living class. With the changes in our home life these past few months, we are extremely tight in our living space, and I found it nearly impossible to host a class last week. I just kept bumping into everything as I tried to manuever around my kitchen and dining area. I also have decided that no more will we host birthday parties at our home. We were going to celebrate Andrew’s party at the park, and started out playing there, but a sudden rain storm with lightning in abundance shoved us back in doors.
The fit was so tight with all those ten year old boys, I decided right then that our next friend party would take place at ChuckE Cheese, or some other such invented place to host parties. Our home pretty much fits our family, but no room for extras.
It was actually liberating to have made these decisions. I have struggled to know if I should continue with community outreach with the various classes I have taught over the years. But this feels like a good year to close it all down and keep our family space more private.
I have opened up our home to strangers in a variety of settings. Mostly the Provident Living Class, but also my Childbirth class during the early nineties, and also the Essential oils classes I taught off and on during the early years of Aromatherapy Education. I always like to teach something I am just learning, as it is highly motivating to me to really master the material that I am supposed to teach. One of the reasons I became a Bradley teacher is because I wanted to learn everything about natural childbirth, and I knew the teacher always learns more than the student.
I feel like change is in the works in my life. With the performance of the Brahms Requiem last week, and my involvement with the Musical at my children’s school last spring, I feel like it is time to shift focus a little from health and childbirth pursuits to musical and theatre endeavors.
Tonight I am hosting our unassisted home birth support group. Laura Shanley and I started it a couple years ago, but only two people plan to attend, and that will not be a problem in terms of space. I had a great talk with my best friend Susanna last night and she shared with me the story of a twin UC. Her friend Lori gave birth after a three hour labor to a son and a daughter. The first was head first and the second was feet first. Born at 39 weeks to a momma who trusts the Lord and trusts birth! Very exciting to hear! Susanna sounded great on the phone too! She is always so fun to talk to.
The third choir that I am singing with this season had our first performance yesterday. Our ward Choir sang a wonderful version of Awake and Arise for our sacrament meeting yesterday. The member of the bishopric conducting had fun with the title of that song as he introduced it. Our church service is in the afternoon and sometimes a few heads start to nod during the meeting. Especially those men who have jobs where they travel much of the time. We also had choir practice after church, so it was a very musical sabbath.
The Singers of Broomfield choir has our first rehearsal this saturday. This is the choir that is performing Faure’s Requiem at Carnegie Hall next June. I am very excited to sing this music in the coming months.
I need to run, but wanted to share a little bit of our life.
This week is busy with soccer games, one more gymnastics meet, and on friday Paul and I are heading down to the Denver Temple for stake temple night. Our three oldest are participating in a food drive for Colorado Food Share on saturday.
I have been doing a juice fast for the past two days, and plan to do a liver flush tonight. My liver has felt so congested since the work in our basement was done. All that glue, paint, and carpet toxin has made me feel somewhat toxic, so I am doing a cleanse to shove it out.
Have a great Day!
