Sledding with Benjamin

The other day I took Ben Sledding at our favorite hill by a pond at our city park.
We usually go sledding in the drainage ditch across the street from our house. The hill is a perfect size for his age and ability, but this pond hill is twice as big and more of a challenge. It was also a sheet of ice, so he was able to go very fast.
Here are some photos:

We walked around this pond to get to the hill.

The temperature was fifty degrees outside. Ben was wearing Allisons old snow pants and Andy’s old jacket mostly for padding for when he wiped out. And yes, he splashed into the snow several times. The only time he cried though is when I told him it was time to leave.

Ben liked boarding down the hill on his feet. This time he stayed on until he made it to the bottom.
Here is a shot of the sunrise taken that same morning.

I took him boarding again this morning, and it was downright warm outside, most of the snow gone, but he found a few patches to slide down. It is fun watching him learn how to balance. Some of my fondest memories from childhood involve winter snow outings in Michigan where I grew up. We don’t ski and so the Colorado skiing thing is not on our radar, but we do love to be outdoors and enjoy the snow. Our little hills and one really big hill in Boulder (Scott Carpenter park) for the older kids, and a small outdoor ice rink downtown seem to fit the bill for the type of outdoor fun we enjoy during the winter months.
I love doing things one on one with my children. We had a good time.
