UPDATE: Thursday December 21st – First day of Winter!
Just took this video of the boys:
The official snow count for Louisville is 21 inches. But the drifts in front of our house are huge!
AND…
it is STILL snowing. Winter storm warning continues for the rest of the day. I just looked outside and this is what I saw…

This is a picture of our backyard fence.
One place up in the mountains close to Estes Park had 52 inches of snow yesterday!
UPDATE:
Later that night…

I just took this picture from my front door, as you can see, the front walk which Paul had completely shoveled, is now covered over, just two hours later, and the snow just keeps coming. We live in Louisville, which is much higher than Boulder valley in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and we have way more snow than the 20 inches they have measured in Boulder. I bet we’ll hit three feet by morning.

Ben put on his Daddys boots, over his pajamas, threw on a hat, grabbed the snow shovel and set out to move some snow. Paul snapped this picture tonight right before we went to bed.

Original Post:
It has been a very exciting day at our house!
We woke up at 5AM as usual, and Paul took the kids to school because we had planned to go back at noon for Andy’s concert holiday sing along. He plays fifth grade level trombone. We were really looking forward to hearing him play a few simple tunes with his band, and they were having a singalong afterwards. But we were not able to attend.
We have had a wonderful snow day. I immediately went out this morning and purchased some groceries and rented five movies. Then Paul took the girls to the mall to finish up their christmas shopping. By the time they arrived home at 1 PM, the roads were really bad, and Paul had heard on the radio that the authorities had said to get off the roads, or you could be given a ticket.
So, We have had a lovely afternoon of watching movies (Jeff, Andy, and I watched World Trade Center for the first time, it was really moving), and the girls are watching Step Up right now, which we saw months ago in the movie theatre, but were looking forward to watching again when it came out on dvd.
Paul just took the boys out to play in the snow with our dog, and he shoveled our front walk. Not that we are planning to go anywhere, it is still snowing like crazy and here in Boulder County we already have two plus feet of snow on the ground, with huge drifts, where the wind has piled it up. But the shoveled walk will make it easier to walk our dog over the next few days.
I went out when the boys were about finished playing and snapped these pictures:
