And that would be a serious miscalculation. Because, unlike many European countries, the US has the capability to strike back at more than merely the local pawns—as we have done in both Afghanistan and Iraq. And should we begin seeing attacks on malls or schools here in the US, it is only a matter of time before our politicians are forced to heed to public outcry for relief, which will involve, in addition to such things as immigration reform and a further relaxation of civil liberties protections, calls to stop the attacks by projecting force internationally.”
