Lefties bashing Sarah Palin for asking Charlie Gibson to clarify the Bush Doctrine

The clip from the ABC Interview:

If Chuckie asked me that “Do you agree with the Bush doctrine” question, I would have paused, and then sarcastically said, “Naw…I’d wait for Iran to nuke New York into the ocean, then I would call for a UN Peace Plan to show me how to respond in a way that would not offend any state sponsors of terrorism. And then Chuck, I would apologize to the world for two hundred years of American Imperialism and Hubris.” And then just blow him a kiss…..

But I’m not Sarah. I’m a mommy blogger who loves to use street theatre to make a point. Here is the picture that appeared in the Rocky Mountain news after the only Pro Troop/Pro Victory Street demo during the DNC in Denver that I helped to organize.

Some of Hugh Hewitts Blogging guests have thoughtfully parsed the Bush Doctrine issue, much better than I ever could….

QUOTES:

“Beware top-of-the-head reactions from leftist pundits that depend on their knowledge of even recent history! Even those with PhDs in American history like Josh Marshall frequently demonstrate themselves to be the clueless ones — and that’s exactly what has happened here: In fact, there are at least two major but distinct concepts that have been labeled as “the Bush Doctrine,” along with a bundle of other related themes too.

Based on the date reference, Gibson was probably referring — as ABC News confirms on its “Political Radar” blog — to a formal White House position paper from September 2002 entitled “The National Security Strategy.” But as guest-blogger WLS at Patterico’s points out, that document is actually a 31-page policy paper that spells out how the United States intends to pursue and protect its national security interests in a post-9/11 world. It is both the justification for preemptive war, as well as a justification for including rogue nations in the same class as terrorist organizations. And it’s a lot more.

The National Security Strategy was updated in 2006, and that document is also extremely broad. So let’s look together at the two major but distinct themes that, separately or together, have been described as “the Bush Doctrine,” and also at some of the other less distinct themes that have been included as well.

Holding Rogue States Accountable for Non-State Actors’ Actions: After 9/11/01, I clearly recall that people began talking about the new and still-evolving “Bush Doctrine” almost immediately. Contrary to Charlie Gibson’s suggestion to Gov. Palin, however, that was when the nation was discussing whether to go after al Qaeda and its enabling hosts, the Taliban, in Afghanistan. The discussion then was not about preemptive operations, but rather about retaliatory operations against both non-state actors and the state actors who harbored or helped them.”

Seems it is Charlie Gibson who needs an education on the Bush Doctrine.
From the clips I have watched, I thought she had some great answers to his gotcha questioning style. Can’t wait to watch the whole interview on 20//20 tonight.
Charles Krauthammer in the Washington Post

“Yes, Sarah Palin didn’t know what it is. But neither does Charlie Gibson. And at least she didn’t pretend to know — while he looked down his nose and over his glasses with weary disdain, sighing and “sounding like an impatient teacher,” as the Times noted. In doing so, he captured perfectly the establishment snobbery and intellectual condescension that has characterized the chattering classes’ reaction to the mother of five who presumes to play on their stage.”

I bought this t-shirt last night and plan to wear it everywhere around Boulder the next two months.
Obama has a serious problem. I am friends with many Liberal Democrats and they all LOVE Sarah Palin. At our playgroup the other day everyone agreed that they were going to vote for McCain because of Palin. Also, a friend who really didn’t care about politics said she was blown away by Palins Speech at the RNC and will vote for McCain because of her. I guess Obama could try to get Hillary back to be his VP pick, but that would look a little desperate at this juncture in the campaign.
Bummer for Barack!
Let Freedom Ring and God Bless Sarah Palin!
