Counting down the days….An American Carol opens October 3rd, 2008

LA Times: Patrick Goldstein
Watch out, Hollywood: The Republicans are invading!

“You may think of David Zucker as one of those uproarious Zucker brothers who made the “Airplane!” and “Naked Gun” movies. But Hollywood conservatives look upon Zucker as their Paul Revere, their Gen. George Patton, their Oliver North … any uncompromising, right-thinking warrior type will do. In recent years, Zucker has become one of the most outspoken voices in showbiz conservative circles who believes that Hollywood is in “a new McCarthy era” because of its hostility to conservative views. He’s also convinced that Democrats are weak, foreign-policy appeaseniks. As for Barack Obama, Zucker says: “Obama is not qualified to be president, and it’ll be a disaster.”

Having already made a series of agitprop videos mocking Madeleine Albright, pro-tax congressional Democrats and the Iraq Study Group, he’s now graduated to a feature film spoofing liberals of all stripes and sizes. Called “An American Carol,” it will hit theaters in October, released by Vivendi Entertainment’s new feature film division. I tried to talk to Zucker myself via his PR people, but didn’t get anywhere. However, the new issue of the right-leaning Weekly Standard has a fascinating profile of Zucker, examining his odyssey from ardent Barbara Boxer liberal to flame-throwing Dick Cheney conservative.

The story also offers a treasure trove of excerpts from the film, which lampoons a host of prominent liberals and showbiz types, from Michael Moore to Rosie O’Donnell, with even a couple of jabs directed at Obama. It also features a host of notable Hollywood conservative actors, including Jon Voight, Kelsey Grammer, James Woods and Dennis Hopper. They are clearly not happy to be swimming in a big pond full of lefties. Grammer, who is friends with Ann Coulter, says he once quoted her pearls of wisdom to some young staffers at his company. As the Standard recounts, the reaction was not pretty:

…As the Weekly Standard describes it:

The film follows the exploits of a slovenly, anti-American filmmaker named Michael Malone, who has joined with a left-wing activist group (Moovealong.org) to ban the Fourth of July. Along the way, Malone is visited by the ghosts of three American heroes–George Washington, George S. Patton and John F. Kennedy–who try to convince him he’s got it all wrong. When terrorists from Afghanistan realize that they need to recruit more operatives to make up for the ever-diminishing supply of suicide bombers, they begin a search for just the right person to help produce a new propaganda video.

“This will not be hard to find in Hollywood,” says one. “They all hate America.” When they settle on Malone, who is in need of work after his last film (“Die You American Pigs”) bombed at the box-office, he unwittingly helps them with their plans to launch another attack on American soil.

OK, so subtlety was never Zucker’s strong suit, even back in the “Naked Gun” days. He’s cast Kevin Farley, Chris Farley’s little brother, to play Michael Moore–ahem–Malone. Woods plays Malone’s agent. Voight plays George Washington. Hopper is a judge who defends his courthouse by gunning down ACLU lawyers trying to take down the Ten Commandments.

The film also has a chubby comedian named Rosie O’Connell who’s promoting a documentary, “The Truth About Radical Christians,” which, among other things, examines the growing phenomenon of nuns as suicide bombers–showing two nuns, strapped with explosives, boarding a bus and inspiring fellow passengers to shriek, “Oh, no! Not the Christians!”

Will this stuff play in Peoria? Can conservatives truly be funny? I’m eager to see if the film is, well, slightly less didactic than the way the Standard describes it. Maybe Zucker hasn’t lost his touch. On the other hand, maybe he’s become just as humorless and sanctimonious as Barbra Streisand. At the end of the piece he says: “I don’t have any desire to be taken seriously. But having said that, I really believe this stuff. Why can’t I put it out there. I’m scared to death of Obama. If I didn’t do something about it, I would feel–my kids would ask: `What did you do in the war Daddy?’ [My answer]: I donated my career to stop this s—.”</blockquote>

Iran ‘loses’ significant quantities of enriched uranium, U.S. spies trouble

“Experts responsible for monitoring Iran’s nuclear program have discovered enough enriched uranium to make six atom bombs is missing from the country’s main production facility at Isfahan, according to the Telegraph in London.

U.S. spy satellites have identified a number of “suspicious sites” Iranians have not declared to nuclear inspectors. Intelligence officials believe the sites are being used for covert nuclear research.

Meanwhile, reports coming from Israel continue to suggest it may be preparing for a military strike on Iran.”

…The Telegraph reported nuclear experts believe 50 to 60 tons of uranium are now missing from the Isfahan plant. If enriched to weapons grade, it is enough uranium to produce five or six atom bombs.

For more on how Iranian officials allegedly removed significant quantities of uranium without inspectors’ knowledge, read Jerome Corsi’s Red Alert, the premium, online intelligence news source by the WND staff writer, columnist and author of the New York Times No. 1 best-seller, “The Obama Nation.”

ACOG year in review statement 2007

Last night my friend Laura Shanley came over and we spent hours pouring over this little gem from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. We were smoking cigars and plotting and planning how to respond to this diatribe against homebirth…. After 7 hours of non-stop focused back and forth on how to prepare for this blog entry, I finally decided to just lay it on the line. Disbelief, sarcasm, and humor…the only way to deal with the Dinos from the Medical Establishment.
Actually Laura spent about four seconds forwarding me this little ditty and I spent about three minutes writing her back and writing my responses to the statement just took a little over 20 mintues. Don’t you just love the web??? Blogging, Email, and Links…a birth activists best friend.

‘Lay’ Midwives & Home Birth
Troubling Trends in State Legislation:

■ Home birth bills on the rise.
■ Least qualified direct-entry midwives gaining licensure.
■ The midwives’ advantage.
■ ACOG on the defensive.
Home Birth Bills on the Rise
We are seeing an increase in ‘lay’ midwifery bills in the states. Backed by individual
State Midwifery Guilds and by the Midwives Alliance of North America (MANA) and its
credentialing unit, the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM), these bills are
being introduced – and passed – in more and more states.
For example, in Virginia in 2005, certified professional midwives (CPMs) finally
prevailed in what had been a decade-long campaign for licensure and legalization of
home birth. New Republican majorities in the Virginia General Assembly helped assure
the midwives’ victory. This year, it was the Missouri midwives who prevailed in their
perennial battle for licensure.
(A lawsuit has been filed to block the new Missouri law.)
We just can’t lose the one state in the union that has the most “Progressive” (bass ack ward) legislation on homebirth and was going to be our model for the rest of the country!!!
What’s behind this trend?
A legislative handbook developed by MANA provides insight into the midwives’
strategy. The 96-page handbook is full of lobbying advice, tactics and propaganda. It
includes a detailed step-by-step primer on getting a home birth bill passed.
The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), an influential 2,400 member
organization of conservative state lawmakers, recently endorsed a model bill for the
licensure of certified professional midwives (CPMs) which was crafted by
MANA/NARM. Model legislation developed by ALEC gets wide attention in state
legislatures across the country.
The ‘lay’ midwives’ internal philosophy on state regulation and licensure appears to have
shifted. In the past, their position on licensure reflected the dominance of midwives who
did not want to be regulated, opposed state licensure, and defended within their
individual guilds the right to stay unlicensed and practice underground. While there are
midwives who still do not want to be regulated and who do not support the current
licensure campaign, for the most part you don’t see them speaking publicly against
licensure in the legislature or elsewhere. Even the nurse-midwives no longer can be
counted on to speak publicly against home birth or lesser trained midwives.

SNL: Palin/Clinton Political Skit

C-BS Story on Palins reaction to the skit:
Best Line:

“According to her spokesperson Tracey Schmitt, the real Sarah Palin had a good laugh along with the press corps in the back of the plane and millions of Americans at home.

“She thought it was quite funny, particularly because she once dressed up as Tina Fey for Halloween,” Schmitt said.”

I stayed up and watched SNL with my daughters saturday night (They wanted to watch Michael Phelps). I thought the first skit was sorta funny, but I was disapointed in the sketches that followed. The comedic timing was off on almost all of the skits. But I guess most ardent dems have been struggling the past two weeks with digestive disorders as they watch their political hopes and dreams just melt away.
Bummer.
I suppose if SNL had even one republican writer, actor, or producer on staff they might have pulled off a successful show, but with everyone all angry and depressed, it was likely impossible to come up with anything funny.
Note to Loren Michaels – get some conservatives on staff….it’s going to be a depressing year for libs, especially when McCain/Palin blows out Obama with a 65% win and you guys can’t yell about recounts and bogus voting.
Anyone had a chance to check out the Peoples Cube?
Hillarious….
