Anthrax Attack five years later:
Steyn on 9-11 Coverage:
Coverage of 9/11 anniversary was too wimpy
“At what point does a society become simply too genteel to wage war? We’re like those apocryphal Victorian matrons who covered up the legs of their pianos. Acts of war against America have to be draped in bathetic music and uncomprehending reflections and crescents of embrace. We fight tastefully, too. Last week one of America’s unmanned drones could have killed 200 Taliban big shots but they were attending a funeral and we apparently have a policy of not killing anybody near cemeteries out of sensitivity. So even our unmanned drones are obliged to behave with sensitivity. But then, these days the very soundtrack to our society is, so to speak, an unmanned drone.”
Why should the world care how Sweden votes?
Al-Qaida warns Muslims: Time to get out of U.S.
“I am saying that Muslims must leave America, but we can attack America anytime,” he said. “Our cycle of warnings has been completed, now we have fresh edicts from some prominent Muslim scholars to destroy our enemy, this is our defending of Jihad; the enemy has entered in our homes and we have the right to enter in their homes, they are killing us, we will kill them.”
We shall see….

Article VI Interview: David Barton of Wallbuilders
“John: Ok, they have you working with folks of faith, have you ever met with groups of Mormons? Mormon elders and so forth?
David Barton: On a number of occasions. In fact, I worked 41 months with U.S. Congressman Ernest Istook, who is a Mormon, and is now running for governor in Oklahoma. In September of ’94, when Republicans were still in the minority, Newt Gingrich stood outside Heritage Foundation and gave a speech promising that if Republicans became the majority in the House, the House would have a vote on a Constitutional amendment to protect school prayer and public religious expressions.
When Republicans did indeed gain control of the House through the Republican Revolution of 1994, Gingrich followed through with his promise. He assigned Ernie to oversee the task – to draft a constitutional amendment that would roll back about 40 years of religion-hostile decisions by the Supreme Court. I spent 41 months working with Ernie on that project, and I don’t think I’ve seen anyone else more passionately committed to defending religious liberties than Ernie was. Gail Ruzika with Eagle Forum of Utah is another example of a Mormon who has done a great job of moving pro-family legislation through a state legislature.”
More on the “Mormon Question”
Mormons have always been politically active. It is part of our spiritual heritage. Our first prophet Joseph Smith ran for the presidency of the US.
Has Socialism Started Retreating In Europe?
Man, I hope so…
More infant deaths with elective C-sections
Everybody in the country is all up in arms over the Spinach E-Coli story…(Which I personally believe is an underhanded attack on Organic Farming) – but why isn’t the news yelling to all doctors of pregnant women…STOP coercing women into having C-sections….you are killing the babies….” It’s not like the CDC has felt the need to publish the Birth stats for 2005 – and no preliminary report for 2006 yet….why the foot dragging people???
Education Is Path to Democracy
I am in total agreement with the President and his wife on the Literacy issue!
Are Videotaped Beheadings Covered by Geneva?
And I completely agree with Ann on the Appeasement issue. Terrorists should NOT be covered by the Geneva Convention. It legitimizes them and the cause they are fighting for – “Death to America” is not exactly covered under Geneva Rules of Engagement.

UN Replacement for Kofi???
Lotta talk today about the UN.

Joseph Klein at Frontpage Mag had a piece outlining the need for truth and a “restoration” of the founding principles of the UN.
I’m curious to know what founding principles he is referring to:
“Alger Hiss wasn’t merely a middle-level bureaucrat who turned over classified documents to the Soviet espionage network. He was the number-two man in Franklin D. Roosevelt’s State Department and a key player in our foreign policy and relations with the Soviet Union.
Hiss was the principal author of the United Nations Charter, which was drafted at the Dumbarton Oaks Conference. Hiss presided as the UN’s first Secretary General at the San Francisco Conference in April 1945, where we learned that a secret agreement had been made at the Yalta Conference the preceding February, giving the Soviet Union three votes in the UN, while every other nation has only one.”
The Alger Hiss Fallout on Politics
Klein said at the end of his piece:
“What counts in the end is whether Ban Ki-Moon or any other serious candidate for Secretary General has the backbone to speak truth to power, denounce the Islamic-fascists who export terror all around the world and firmly distinguish between right and wrong. If it is not already too late to save the United Nations after the devastation of Kofi Annan’s squandered rule, the next Secretary General will have one last, scant chance to restore the UN to its founding principles.”
The UN’s Kofi
“Five people have already declared their candidacy, but it is possible that Mr Annan’s successor will not be among them. There is still time for others to throw their hats into the ring.”
They forgot one person who has had LONG ambitions to be UN secretary general:

The men who want Kofi Annan’s job
U.N. is back in the global spotlight
Wouldn’t it be great! Hillary as President of the US, and Bill as UN Secretary General. do, do, do, doooo You’ve just entered the twilight zone…..
Personally, I think we should find other uses for the UN building, perhaps a school to teach Capitalism to every Liberal in New York?
As for the UN Flag?
Hankie?

Doormat?

Rag to clean the floor with?

People, this bloated, sick, toxic, overwhelming, self-important institution needs to DIE!
Please, let’s just take the time and energy to cut off all of its funding and let the various religious and secular charities in our world take over humanitarian efforts. They are so much better at it anyway.
I like to stand on the UN flag when I go Freeping:

I wonder when we in the west are going to stop being snookered by the bloated bear-o-crats at the UN???

Happenings
I snapped this shot of the sunrise off my deck the other morning. I had been up early walking our dog, and after the walk, I thought, “I’ve got to get a picture of this beautiful september morning!

On saturday Paul and I took a group down to the Cannery to can some dry pack foods.
Here is a picture of him pouring red wheat into the cans:

One of the families who attended brought their young son to help can some food:

And two of the ladies who attended were not LDS. They purchased some food for storage and were excited about the opportunity to serve with Humanitarian Canning efforts.

After the canning session Paul and I drove to Allisons gymnastics meet. I snapped this shot of her doing a back walkover on the beam during warm up. Pictures were not allowed during the actual meet. She did not place, but her team won 2nd overall at this invitational.

These past few weeks I have made the decision not to continue teaching my provident living class. With the changes in our home life these past few months, we are extremely tight in our living space, and I found it nearly impossible to host a class last week. I just kept bumping into everything as I tried to manuever around my kitchen and dining area. I also have decided that no more will we host birthday parties at our home. We were going to celebrate Andrew’s party at the park, and started out playing there, but a sudden rain storm with lightning in abundance shoved us back in doors.
The fit was so tight with all those ten year old boys, I decided right then that our next friend party would take place at ChuckE Cheese, or some other such invented place to host parties. Our home pretty much fits our family, but no room for extras.
It was actually liberating to have made these decisions. I have struggled to know if I should continue with community outreach with the various classes I have taught over the years. But this feels like a good year to close it all down and keep our family space more private.
I have opened up our home to strangers in a variety of settings. Mostly the Provident Living Class, but also my Childbirth class during the early nineties, and also the Essential oils classes I taught off and on during the early years of Aromatherapy Education. I always like to teach something I am just learning, as it is highly motivating to me to really master the material that I am supposed to teach. One of the reasons I became a Bradley teacher is because I wanted to learn everything about natural childbirth, and I knew the teacher always learns more than the student.
I feel like change is in the works in my life. With the performance of the Brahms Requiem last week, and my involvement with the Musical at my children’s school last spring, I feel like it is time to shift focus a little from health and childbirth pursuits to musical and theatre endeavors.
Tonight I am hosting our unassisted home birth support group. Laura Shanley and I started it a couple years ago, but only two people plan to attend, and that will not be a problem in terms of space. I had a great talk with my best friend Susanna last night and she shared with me the story of a twin UC. Her friend Lori gave birth after a three hour labor to a son and a daughter. The first was head first and the second was feet first. Born at 39 weeks to a momma who trusts the Lord and trusts birth! Very exciting to hear! Susanna sounded great on the phone too! She is always so fun to talk to.
The third choir that I am singing with this season had our first performance yesterday. Our ward Choir sang a wonderful version of Awake and Arise for our sacrament meeting yesterday. The member of the bishopric conducting had fun with the title of that song as he introduced it. Our church service is in the afternoon and sometimes a few heads start to nod during the meeting. Especially those men who have jobs where they travel much of the time. We also had choir practice after church, so it was a very musical sabbath.
The Singers of Broomfield choir has our first rehearsal this saturday. This is the choir that is performing Faure’s Requiem at Carnegie Hall next June. I am very excited to sing this music in the coming months.
I need to run, but wanted to share a little bit of our life.
This week is busy with soccer games, one more gymnastics meet, and on friday Paul and I are heading down to the Denver Temple for stake temple night. Our three oldest are participating in a food drive for Colorado Food Share on saturday.
I have been doing a juice fast for the past two days, and plan to do a liver flush tonight. My liver has felt so congested since the work in our basement was done. All that glue, paint, and carpet toxin has made me feel somewhat toxic, so I am doing a cleanse to shove it out.
Have a great Day!

News with Commentary

These are the stories I found interesting on the web in the past few days:
Swedish Opposition Wins Election, Exit Polls Show
The opposition laid the groundwork for victory two years ago when it formed the Alliance for Sweden, with common policies on taxes, the economy and welfare, last month issuing its first joint election manifesto. It also managed to convince voters it had the best recipe to end a decade of stagnation in the Swedish labor market.
““The four opposition parties allied into a formidable alternative,” said Anders Sannerstedt, a political-science professor at Lund University. “They have never been this united and in tune with each other — I have to call it historic.”
The largest opposition party, the Moderates, took 26.6 percent, according to the SVT exit poll, while the Liberals got 7.3 percent, the Center Party 8.2 percent and the Christian Democrats 7.6 percent. The exit poll gave the Social Democrats 34.3 percent of the vote, the Left 5.8 percent and the Greens 5.5 percent.”
Really amazing trends in European Politics. I wonder how this will be spun in the American Press???
Proxy Terrorism From Iran
NATAN SHARANSKY is a former deputy prime minister of Israel and currently a member of parliament for the opposition Likud Party.
September 12, 2006
“IN THE SUMMER of 2000, Russian President Vladimir V. Putin told me a story that I have been unable to get out of my mind. We were meeting in the Kremlin, and I raised the grave danger facing the world from the transfer of missile technology and nuclear material to the Iranians. In Putin’s view, however, the real danger came not from an Iranian nuclear-tipped missile or, for that matter, from the lethal arsenal of any nation-state.
“Imagine a sunny and beautiful day in a suburb of Manhattan,” he said. “An elderly man is tending to the roses in his small garden with his nephew visiting from Europe. Life seems perfectly normal. The following day, the nephew, carrying a suitcase, takes a train to Manhattan. Inside the suitcase is a nuclear bomb.”
The threat, Putin explained to me a year before 9/11, was not from this or that country but from their terrorist proxies — aided and supported quietly by a sovereign state that doesn’t want to get its hands dirty — who will perpetrate their attacks without a return address. This scenario became real when Al Qaeda plotted its 9/11 attacks from within Afghanistan and received support from the Taliban government. Then it happened again this summer, when Iran was allowed to wage a proxy war through Hezbollah in southern Lebanon and northern Israel. But this time, the international community’s weak response dealt the global war on terror a severe blow.”
Natan Sharansky wrote the book The Case for Democracy, which highly influenced my thinking about the possibility for democracy being established all over the world. In this editorial he shares a sobering insight on terror.
The ongoing failure of imagination
“Prior to 9/11, most Americans found the idea that international terrorists could mount an attack on their homeland and kill thousands of innocent citizens not just unlikely, but inconceivable. Psychologically, Americans imagined that they lived in a security bubble. Terrorist attacks, including those on U.S. embassies in Tanzania and Kenya, occurred elsewhere. These beliefs were reinforced by the conventional wisdom among terrorism experts, who argued that terrorists sought not mass casualties but rather mass sympathy through limited attacks that called attention to their cause.
As we approach the fifth year without a second successful terrorist attack upon U.S. soil, a chorus of skeptics now suggests that 9/11 was a 100-year flood. They conveniently forget the deadly explosions in Bali, Madrid, London, and Mumbai, and dismiss scores of attacks planned against the United States and others that have been disrupted. [1] The idea that terrorists are currently preparing even more deadly assaults seems as far-fetched to them as the possibility of terrorists crashing passenger jets into the World Trade Center did before that fateful Tuesday morning.
As one attempts to assess where we now stand, and what the risks are, the major conclusion of the bipartisan 9/11 Commission deserves repetition: The principal failure to act to prevent the September 11 attack was a “failure of imagination.” [2] A similar failure of imagination leads many today to discount the risk of a nuclear 9/11.”
I keep having dreams about nuclear terror. I have had them since my teens, and my dreams have been part of the reason for the many preparations that our family has made over the years, but lately I have been having even more urgent dreams about massive death and destruction in America. This article was a sobering call for the average person in the US to make some serious preparations.
IN MEMORIAM: ORIANA FALLACI, 1929 – 2006
David Horowitz memorializes Oriana:
Oriana Fallaci has died after a long struggle with cancer at the age of seventy-seven. Her last years were spent in the United States in part because she was hunted in her own beloved Italy because of her war against the Islamic jihad. A fatwa calling for death was issued an Islamic jihadist; an Italian judge attempted to put her in jail for offending the invaders. She found refuge in the United States. But she also embraced America as her homeland in exile because she understood that America was the global center of resistance to the Islamic threat. The attacks of 9/11 inspired her.
From her sick bed she wrote two polemics — The Rage and The Pride and The Force of Reason which are clarion calls to action to defend the West. If we prevail in this battle to defend our civilization they will be remembered in the same way that Tom Paine’s Common Sense is remembered as a summons to Americans to defend their freedom. Orianna Fallaci was a woman of unbelievable courage. We will not see her like again soon. May we honor her by heeding her warnings and dedicating ourselves to the struggle to which she gave her final hours.
One of Oriannas editorials on the eve of the war in Iraq in 2003:
The Rage, the Pride and the Doubt
Thoughts on the eve of battle in Iraq.
Academe in a Time of Crisis
“According to David Horowitz, the prominent conservative activist, that extra public scrutiny stems from widespread exasperation with the professoriate in a time of crisis. “If we weren’t in the war on terror, the stakes would be a lot lower,” he says, “and the public wouldn’t be paying attention.”
But Mr. Lukianoff says that frustration with “out of touch” professors is not the only reason academic freedom controversies have taken up more airtime in recent years. The tension between liberty and security — and the need to protect the former — has itself become a staple concept in the national consciousness, he says. After September 11, 2001, people are “more aware of academic freedom,” he says. “Public outrage doesn’t just go one way.”
According to Robert O’Neil, director of the Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression, an autonomous organization with close ties to the University of Virginia, the legal and non-governmental institutions that safeguard academic freedom have not been cowed since September 11.”
I’m all for academic freedom, but as a mother of a daughter who is a senior in high school, and is actively making decisions about where she will attend college, I am very interested in her attending a school where she will get both sides of the story….not just the liberal, socialist, watered down patriotism of the left.
If Only Bin Laden Had a Stained Blue Dress
Ann Coulter:
“If you wonder why it took 50 years to get the truth about Joe McCarthy, consider the fanatical campaign of the Clinton acolytes to kill an ABC movie that relies on the 9/11 commission report, which whitewashed only 90 percent of Clinton’s cowardice and incompetence in the face of terrorism, rather than 100 percent.
Islamic jihadists attacked America year after year throughout the Clinton administration. They did everything but blow up his proverbial “bridge to the 21st century.” Every year but one, Clinton found an excuse not to fight back.
The first month Clinton was in office, Islamic terrorists with suspected links to al-Qaida and Saddam Hussein bombed the World Trade Center.
For the first time ever, a terrorist act against America was treated not as a matter of national security, but exclusively as a simple criminal offense. The individual bombers were tried in a criminal court. (The one plotter who got away fled to Iraq, that peaceful haven of kite-flying children until Bush invaded and turned it into a nation of dangerous lunatics.)”
Ann always has an interesting take on things….
Plan B Is a Bad Plan
Jennifer Roback Morse
“The dispute over the morning-after pill has hinged on the politics of FDA approval and the science of abortion. Did the FDA withhold approval just to placate Bush’s conservative base? Is Plan B really “emergency contraception” or it is really a very early abortion? Now that the morning-after pill has been approved for over-the-counter use, we need to ask ourselves how it will affect the spread of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs). I predict the morning-after pill will induce a new round of increases in sexually transmitted diseases.”
Morality is the answer for all of these issues.
About That Mercedes?
Claudia Rosett
“But what’s really at issue here is not simply money — or a Mercedes — but the integrity of a United Nations that in handling crises demands the public trust. And what we still need from Kofi Annan is not a quip, but serious answers to the many questions still out there … about that Mercedes.”
‘Bioethicist’: OK to kill babies after they’re born
“An internationally known Princeton “bioethicist” and animal-rights activist says he’d kill disabled babies if it were in the “best interests” of the family, because he sees no distinction in the child’s life whether it is born or not, and the world already allows abortion.
The comments come from Peter Singer, a controversial bioethics professor, who responded to a series of questions in the UK Independent this week.
Earlier, WND reported Singer believes the next few decades will see a massive upheaval in the concept of life and rights, with only “a rump of hard-core, know-nothing religious fundamentalists” still protecting life as sacrosanct.
To the rest, it will be a commodity to be re-evaluated regularly for its worth.”
Don’t know what to say…
